Welcome to back to school! Can you believe that summer is over? Are you ready for a new school year? Hosts Brigitte Jia and Joven Hundal spend an hour with enlightening information to get your best self ready for this educational season. Sports reporter Katie Lyons asks a pertinent question: “What things am I going to do differently this year?” Fortunately she also offers numerous suggestions to make the following year a great one.
First time author, Fayth Thomas shares real life lessons on positive living including how to provide healthy back to school lunches and snacks with her book, Being the Best You! The book inspires readers to do their part to combat a once-uncommon disease that now, according to the CDC, affects more than 208,000 people under 20 years of age. Being the Best You!explores diabetes in a way that is simple for children to understand, as well as inspires children to strive for career paths that make a difference in their local community.
Brigitte gives a list of ways to be artistic and expressive with pencil cases, binders, collages, and more in Art Attack. Art is simply a form of self-expression, and Back to School provides the perfect window of opportunity for us to remind ourselves that, really, anybody can create art.
BIO: Fayth Thomas is an experienced day-care owner. She lives in the Washington, DC, metro area with her kids, her husband, and their pet fish. Before she started writing children’s books, she specialized in teaching children various things: healthy eating, Spanish, gardening, self-defence, and reading. She specializes in writing a line of books that will educate children with fun bedtime stories. http://www.fayththomasauthor.com/

Those who know nothing of foreign languages know nothing of their own.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
– Do you speak another language? Is communicating important to you? Host Brigitte Jia leads a lively conversation with reporters Zahra Hasanian, Joven Hundal, and Katie Choo around the topic of the cultural connections of languages. Learning a second language is actually linked to various health benefits. For example, a study a few years back covered by National Geographic concluded that learning and speaking a second language can stave off Alzheimer’s’ and dementia for four more years. Language gives people hope, and it can also snatch away hope, whether for propaganda or poetry. Technology offers another hurdle as our communications are not face to face.
– Employers are looking for people who can not only speak English well, but also have a somewhat diverse knowledge of languages. Whether it’s sign, music, art, or dance, we are surrounded by language. How you communicate will determine how high you bounce in life.

Every week, Express Yourself!⢠will bring you a stimulating program based on a chapter from our award winning book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens.Â
âThe human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all, but the most difficult to play.â Are you a talker? Do you know how to communicate effectively?
Veteran reporter of Health Rap, Alex Pawlakos, joins hosts Asya Gonzalez and Brigitte Jia about how important it is to communicate with your doctor. A doctor can correctly diagnose your symptoms, arrive at a conclusion and a course of treatment, but only if you TALK to him or her. In a world where actions speak louder than words, Artist Jenna Rose Simon proves that the healing act of art and the written word can speak volumes when seen through the eyes of those in need of healing. Jennaâs message is that even if you canât change the world, you can help the life of one person.
As an athlete, Reporter of Lion Roar, Katie Lyons considers talking and communicating to be one of the most important components of sports. Communication between athletes and coaches is necessary for improvement, feedback, and strategizing. Talk Back!
Bio: JENNA Rose Simon
After struggling with an eating disorder for ten years, Jenna Rose Simon began to draw concepts that she felt people werenât understanding in her therapy, starting with her first self-portrait. It was then that Jenna discovered, with the help of her therapist, that drawing would help her and potentially others. Jennaâs sketch depicting verbal abuse went viral and was shared more than 300K times on Facebook. Simon continues to impact others through her Instagram account @gentletouchofart where she shares many of her sketches, including concept art and celebrity pieces. jennarosesimon.comÂ

Marie-Helene Tourenne and her guest Greg Thatcher discuss his path as an artist, and his special relationship with his favorite subject which is trees. Art as a language and the processes involved in the manifestation of a piece of art work will also be discussed. Greg Thachter who has native american ancestry has studied at the University of Victoria, B.C., Canada, B.F.A. with Distinction and University of Saskatchewan, Canada, M.A. in Painting and Drawing. He has been teaching art since 1979.
For him, the direct experience of an artwork is primarily an internal experience, based solely upon our level of consciousness and our mental impressions and past experiences. Experiencing an artwork with openness can provide us with direct contact with our deeper selves and, at times, a beautiful epiphany that reaffirms the divine.

What is the meaning of care, and how do you heal both inside and out? Hosts Brigitte Zia and Zahra Hasanain read from Be the Star You Are!® for Teens the chapter, The Gift of Healing by prominent physical therapist, Arlyn Van Dyke about his childhood accident that lead to him becoming a healer. They then travel across the pond to the Emerald Isle with a fascinating interview with author of The Summer King, Orla Melling. Mellingâs books of young adult fantasy weave spiritual themes with high adventure in the tradition of her favourite author, C.S. Lewis. Her bestselling series The Chronicles of Faerie  was listed among the American Library Associationâs Top Ten Fantasy Books for Youth and Top Ten Youth Books for the Environment. Art can be very calming and serene and in our last segment, Art Attack reporter, Brigitte shows us the power of healing art. Each and every one of us harbors a doctor within. Heal thyself!
Bio: O.R. Melling
OR Melling was born in Ireland and grew up in Canada with her seven sisters and two brothers. At eighteen she hitch-hiked to California, seeking adventure. A year later, she was off to Malaysia and Borneo on a youth exchange program. That set her motto for life “to travel hopefully” and she has ended up in other wonderful countries such as India and Outer Mongolia. During her years at university, Melling was a reservist with the Royal Canadian Navy, gaining the Queenâs Commission and the rank of Sub-lieutenant. She has a B.A. in Philosophy and Celtic Studies and an M.A. in Medieval Irish History. Melling also writes screenplays and adult novels. Her books have been translated into many languages including German, Japanese, Chinese and Russian. Melling lives in a small town by the Irish Sea.
