Invisible Disabilities

One of the most heart breaking life altering events is discovering your child has been diagnosed for an incurable disease or disability. Then the fear, panic and questions set in. As a parent your world falls apart. How did this happen? What did I do wrong? What can I do now? Who do I go to for help? Will my child need a full time care taker? I will not put my child in a home! Will he/she be able to attend school? What kind of school? Will he/she be able to live an independent life? How will my child survive after I die?

Some disabilities are obvious. People can see a child in a wheel chair, spinal bifida or cerebral palsy and maybe even understand what a family is going through. But what able the invisible disabilities.

Neurodevelopment disorders like autism or ADHC. The outward signs are not obvious. We have all seen people react as if a child with these disorders is simply unruly, or the parents cannot control their child. These reactions add to the already overwhelming stress for these families.

The latest estimate of autism is affects—the updated incident report for ASD is 1:59 children in the US—is over 30% percent from the 1 in 88 rate reported in 2008, and more than double the 1 in 150 rate in 2000.

According to the parent reports, 6.4 million children (11% of this age group 4–17 years) have been diagnosed with ADHD, and rates are increasing an average of approximately 5% per year since 2003.

The numbers are staggering, but there is hope coming out of the research, testing and development at University of California Davis’ MIND Institute.

The UC Davis MIND Institute (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) is a collaborative international research center, committed to the awareness, understanding, prevention, and treatment of the challenges associated with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

In 1998, families of children with autism helped found the UC Davis MIND Institute (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders). They envisioned experts from every discipline related to brain development working together toward one goal: finding and developing treatments to reduce the challenges and improve the quality of life for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families.

On Tuesday September 3rd, I will interview three of the best minds in neurological disorder research. Join me September 3rd at 8:00 a.m. PST on https://voiceamerica.com/show/3902/life-altering-events

Moms Across America: FOOD FIGHT! By Dr. John and Linda Gonino

Zen Honeycutt, Co-founder of Moms Across America, is lifting her voice and empowering moms everywhere to take on our food industry! As an inspired community they rally to change laws, start local and global organic food movements, and educate the masses on the poisoning of our food system and just what it is doing to our bodies, especially those of our children.
The biggest culprit of the chemical warfare on our food supply is Round-Up and the toxin it contains.
Glyphosate: a chemical in Roundup and hundreds of other herbicides which are  sprayed on 80% of our GMO and many non organic food and feed crops. It does not wash, dry or cook off. Our animals eat the grains it is sprayed on as well and thus polluting our meat supply.

Recently Zen attended the Monsanto Tribunal at The Hague, Here is an excerpt from the blog post on her website www.momsacrossamerica.com.

Monsanto, arguably the most hated company in the world, has a decades long history of poisoning people and the planet. Search online for DDT, Agent Orange, Aspartame, High Fructose Corn Syrup, GMOs and Glyphosate/Roundup and you will have enough material to read for years. Read about what Monsanto did to the town of Anniston, Alabama, where they produced PCBs and almost destroyed the town.

The Monsanto Tribunal, organized by Navdanya, Organic Consumers Association, IFOAM, Marie-Monique Robin, and more, was a people’s tribunal with international judges who will deliver a verdict which will likely influence forthcoming legal judgments. The intention is to create a new criminal term, called “Ecocide” which would make it illegal to poison people and the planet with toxins.

We are long overdue for such a criminal category. According to Will Allen’s “War on Bugs”, since the 1890’s farmers and factories have been using toxins which have been poisoning our soil, water and air. The past two decades have seen a huge increase in the use of toxins. 2/3 of all the glyphosate ever produced has been used in the last 10 years. According to the journal Environmental Sciences Europe, 9.4 million tons worldwide of glyphosate based herbicides have been used on our soil, town road sides, parks, playgrounds, school yards, and food. Glyphosate, the declared “active” chemical ingredient in Roundup, is a chelator (makes vital nutrients and minerals unavailable), an antibiotic (weakening the immune system) a reproductive effector (leading to miscarriages and birth defects), causes kidney and liver damage (28,000 have died in Sri Lanka who came in contact with Glyphosate based herbicides or GBH) and has been linked to cancer (nearly 1000 plaintiffs have filed against Monsanto for the link to non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.) Glyphosate has been discovered, by Seralini’s team in France, however to be one of the least toxic of the 50-100 chemicals in the chemical mixture “Roundup”. The other formulants are 1000-100,000 X more toxic. These same chemicals are not required to have safety studies, and the EPA admitted directly to me that they have NO long term safety studies for the final formulation of Roundup. Hence, the worldwide claim that Roundup and the 700 other glyphosate based herbicides are safe is completely unfounded.
On October 15-16th, 2016, the Monsanto Tribunal brought the people and experts together who have experienced harm from or have researched the impact of glyphosate based herbicides made primarily by Monsanto. The testimonies were deeply disturbing and tragic.

The first two testimonies were by mothers who had used Roundup during their pregnancies and had babies with malformations. They learned that at the particular time of their gestation and their exposure to Roundup was the same time as the bodily function of their child that was deformed. Glyphosate is acknowledged by the EPA as a “reproductive effector.” One mother stated that her son was about to undergo his 51st surgery.  The mothers did not cry or lash out angrily as they would be justified to do so, but tears did well in my eyes, because I know the love of a mother and how much all we want for our children is for them to be healthy, happy and live productive, meaningful lives. These children have been robbed of that future. Their health and their futures have been compromised by the toxic chemicals their mothers were exposed to. This means our country, our planet has been robbed, for who knows what these children would have invented or contributed to our society? Think of Google – created by two boys.

More to come on the radio show about the Monsanto Tribunal and its’ outcome.

Without the conscious movement of community voicing their desires against big government and big corp. the path our whole food system is going down will not change, but only get worse.Let’s learn together how to create change and restore our health!

The Kids Who Beat Autism

Mark Macluskie and Matt Tremblay both had one thing in common growing up, they both suffered from autism. Now, both boys no longer have autism and people are starting to realize that children who grow up with symptoms of autism, its possible to grow out of it.

At first, everything about L.’s baby boy seemed normal. He met every developmental milestone and delighted in every discovery. But at around 12 months, B. seemed to regress, and by age 2, he had fully retreated into his own world. He no longer made eye contact, no longer seemed to hear, no longer seemed to understand the random words he sometimes spoke. His easygoing manner gave way to tantrums and head-banging. “He had been this happy, happy little guy,” L. said. “All of a sudden, he was just fading away, falling apart. I can’t even describe my sadness. It was unbearable.” More than anything in the world, L. wanted her warm and exuberant boy back.

In the months and years that followed, the two women spent hours on the phone and at each other’s homes on the East Coast, sharing their fears and frustrations and swapping treatment ideas, comforted to be going through each step with someone who experienced the same terror and confusion. When I met with them in February, they told me about all the treatments they had tried in the 1990s: sensory integration, megadose vitamins, therapeutic horseback riding, a vile-tasting powder from a psychologist who claimed that supplements treated autism. None of it helped either boy.

Autism is considered a lifelong developmental disorder, but its diagnosis is based on a constellation of behavioral symptoms — social difficulties, fixated interests, obsessive or repetitive actions and unusually intense or dulled reactions to sensory stimulation — because no reliable bio-markers exist. Though the symptoms of autism frequently become less severe by adulthood, the consensus has always been that its core symptoms remain. Most doctors have long dismissed as wishful thinking the idea that someone can recover from autism. Supposed cures have been promoted on the Internet — vitamin shots, nutritional supplements, detoxifiers, special diets, pressurized rooms filled with pure oxygen and even chelation, the potentially dangerous removal of heavy metals from the body. But no evidence indicates that any of them can alleviate any of the core symptoms of autism, let alone eradicate it.

Matt remembers a few things about being an autistic preschooler, like how he used to flap and rock. He remembers his fixation with the Little People School Bus and the calm, deep focus he felt when he drove the toy around and around the kitchen for hours, dropping Little People off all over the floor, then picking them up again. Mild echoes from his autistic days remain. He told me that he still can’t stand wearing tight or stiff clothes, so he opts for sweatpants or loose khakis instead of jeans. And even though he’s a jokester himself, by his own reckoning he still occasionally has difficulty figuring out when someone else is kidding. “I think he still sometimes interprets things more literally than other people do,” said his mother, a pediatric nurse. “Maybe that’s because he had to learn how to read people’s emotions, facial expressions and mannerisms, where other kids just know, just learned it automatically.”

For many parents, it is surely tempting to scrutinize the new studies for hidden clues or a formula for how to undo autism. But many mysteries still remain about autism’s trajectory, and researchers urge parents to keep the results in perspective. “I see a lot of parents of 2-year-olds,” Catherine Lord says, “who have heard stories about kids growing out of autism, and they tell us, ‘I want my kid to be one of those kids.’ ” She reminds them that only a minority of children lose their symptoms, and she counsels parents to focus instead on helping their child reach his or her potential, whatever it is, instead of feeling that nothing short of recovery is acceptable. “When you get too focused on ‘getting to perfect,’ you can really hurt your child. A typical kid fights back against that kind of pressure, but a kid with autism might not. It’s fine to hope — it’s good to hope — but don’t concentrate so much on that hope that you don’t see the child in front of you.”

Welcome to Autism America 1 in 68 children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD By Leslie Carol Botha

The Word Autism On Blank Puzzle Pieces

Holy Hormones Honey! Tune in for Leslie Botha’s latest Episode  “Welcome to Autism America 1 in 68 children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD” airing April 10th 9am Pacific Time on the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel.

On March 30, the CDC released its latest report on autism rates in 11 states in the U.S.  The data shows a disturbing 30% increase in ASD over the data reported in 2010. Although the CDC acknowledges ASD is on the rise, they claim to be stymied as to why while lamely citing increased ‘awareness’ and ‘misdiagnosis’.

Earlier this year, biochemist Dr. Brian Hooker created a firestorm when he revealed he obtained sensitive CDC documents through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. His analysis shows statistically significant risks of autism associated with the vaccine preservative Thimerosal (mercury), citing methodical itemized ‘misrepresentations and outright errors’ in the government’s analysis.

Hooker will reveal that the CDC is aware that pregnant women getting the flu vaccine are 8 times more likely to bear a child with neurological impairment.  And that infant exposure to vaccines increases their likelihood of developing ASD by 7.6 times. What is the government hiding and why?

brianhooker
Guest Bio:Brian Hooker, PhD, PE is an associate professor of biology at Simpson University in Redding California where he specializes in chemistry and biology.

In 1985, Dr. Hooker earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, from California State Polytechnic University. He earned his Masters of Science degree in 1988 and his doctorate in 1990, both in biochemical engineering, from Washington State University.

Hooker has published over 50 science and engineering papers in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals. He has a son, aged 16, who developed normally but then regressed into autism after receiving Thimerosal-containing vaccines. Dr. Brian Hooker’s investigative research is sponsored by the Focus Autism Foundation, which is dedicated to informing the public about the cause(s) of the autism epidemic and the rise of chronic illnesses.
