Lucy from the Peanuts Movie and Humor

Every week, Express Yourself!™ will bring you a stimulating program based on a chapter from our award winning book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens.
Brigitte Jia - Version 2 (1)zahra head shot
Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Peanuts are alive and well! Hosts Brigitte Jia and Zahra Hasanian interview Hadley Belle Miller, the voice of Lucy, in the new peanuts movie.
They also read Joel Goodman’s story, The Gift of Humor, from Cynthia Brian’s book, Be the Star You Are!® for Teens and talk about what constitutes humor. In Hope Heals, Zahra shows us the healing effects of laughter. Instead of from “grim and bear it”  adopt an attitude of “grin and share it.”  Laughter and humor are the best medicine.

Every week, Express Yourself!™ will bring you a stimulating program based on a chapter from our award winning book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens.
What is fortitude and do you have the strength to keep on keeping on? New host Brigitte Jia examines fortitude for a full hour beginning with reading the Gift of Fortitude by Cynthia Brian from the book, Be the Star You Are!® for TEENS.

Brigitte Jia - Version 2

In our 2nd and 3rd segment, Brigitte introduces Rachel Caine, the New York Times, USA Today, and #1 internationally bestselling author of more than 45 novels that span the categories of horror, suspense, urban fantasy, science fiction, media tie-in, historical, and young adult. Rachel discusses her first novel in The Great Library series, INK AND BONE, while giving insights on how to get started as a teen writer. In Art Attack, Brigitte profiles artists with immense courage, who faced obstacles and challenges to complete their works and maintain their craft. What does Fortitude mean? Fortitude entails strength, guts, resilience, courage, staying power, stamina, endurance, and determination. Do you have true grit?

  • What is beauty?
Why is beauty such a concept that is so misunderstood?
Could there be one absolute definition of beauty
Billboards feature models with perfect, golden skin tone glows. Magazines sprawl open with images of stick-thin celebrities without a blemish or flaw in sight. In a world that is so fixated on outer appearances, it’s time to redefine beauty and our teen hosts and reporters offer ways to make you feel beautiful from the inside out. Henna Hundal and Asya Gonzalez have lively conversations on the meaning of beauty and self-confidence. They encourage listeners to tap into their inner beauty by smiling, standing up straight, thinking positive thoughts, and celebrating what you have instead of what you lack. Our talented singer and Back Story Reporter, Jennifer Lee, sings Carole King’s song, “Beautiful” which emphasizes that anyone is as beautiful as he/she feels. New reporter, Brigitte Jia, brings us her first segment of Art Attack, looking at the beauty of Japanese anime and manga.

Be the Star You Are!™ and Express Yourself!™ congratulate Asya Gonzalez for being honored as one of five top teen entrepreneurs in the USA with her company Stinky Feet Gurlz. Read more.

The quote by Roald Dahl sums up the theme of beauty: “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

It’s important to feel validated and appreciated. Affirmation is a fundamental need of all humans. Hosts Henna Hundal and Katelyn Darrow share their personal experiences with ways they offer affirmation to themselves and others. They also interview CEO of BYOU Magazine, author of Beauty’s Secret, A Girl’s Discovery of Inner Beauty, and former international model and actress, Debra Gano. After a series of life-changing incidents, including a near-fatal car accident, Debra’s perspective shifted from one of superficial external-focus to a deeper inner awareness that “it’s what’s inside that counts.” As a single mother of a twelve-year-old daughter, Debra discusses her passion for helping females find and live their most authentic, empowered selves.
Henna loves working with Be the Star You Are!® charity providing platforms for expression and promoting positive media. She says, “ we’re equipping young people with the confidence they need so that they can get out there and take the world by storm.” She also is a Teen Ambassador for You are Valued where the message is “Grant yourself permission. Give yourself affirmation and define yourself.” Besides volunteering with Be the Star You Are!®, Katelyn launched a new campaign with her charity, Angels of God, called Angel Deeds which encourages people to spread kindness and help others through every day, simple deeds. “Small actions make a big difference,” says Katelyn.
The following is excerpted from the chapter, The Gift of Affirmation from Cynthia Brian’s book, Be the Star You Are!® 99 Gifts for Living, Loving, Laughing, and Learning to Make a Difference.
“We underestimate how our own personal agenda affects people we know and don’t know. Smiling is an incredibly effective affirmation. Even when you feel down, just making yourself smile will improve everyone’s mood, including your own.
“Help people notice the good in themselves. When they feel special, they will be special.” Cynthia Brian

Kindness and Caring plus Nickelodeon’s Ella Anderson By Cynthia Brian

Mother-Teresa

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.”

As we celebrate the 104th birthday of Mother Teresa, it’s appropriate to broadcast a program that focuses on the wisdom of kindness.  Hosts Henna Hundal and Asya Gonzalez with reporter Ryan Sim serve up simple ways to show you care such as

·  Compliment three people.

·  Write a hand-written note.

·  Say good morning to everyone.

·  Pick up litter.

·  Place uplifting notes in library books, on restroom mirrors, on someone’s locker, or on their computer screen.

·  Dedicate 24 hours to spreading positivity on social media.

·  Hold up inspiring signs during rush hour.

·  Leave a generous tip.

·  Send flowers to a friend.

.Cook dinner for your family.

.Help a friend move or clean.

.Volunteer at a convalescent hospital

.Pamper yourself!

Read uplifting, inspiring books, a short chapter at a time such as Be the Star You Are!® 99 Gifts for Living, Loving, Laughing, and Learning to Make a Difference, or Be the Star You Are!® for TEENS.

After a healthy dose of opportunities for acts of kindness, Henna and Asya interview ten-year-old actress, Ella Anderson, starring as Piper in the Nickelodeon series, Henry Danger. Ella began acting professionally at age five and has worked with Kurt Russell, James Franco, Vince Vaughn, and more. Her two dogs keep her kind and grounded.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”  Mother Teresa
