Depression: The Truth and a Cure

Most of us accept depression as a fact of life. In 2011, one-fourth of the U.S. population was on anti-depressants. I’m certain that the number is much higher now, but I couldn’t find current statistics. The pharmaceutical industry is doing great, but people aren’t. Most psychiatrists won’t even treat people with anything but a prescription. It’s easier and more lucrative to just medicate. The problem is, people aren’t getting better. Worse, they believe that their biochemistry has caused the problem, which prevents them from seeking the help they need to actually heal their depression and their lives. Current studies do not prove cause and effect; they only show correlation. Unless we do biochemical analyses on newborns and follow them throughout life, we cannot prove which came first, the depression or the imbalance. To sentence someone to a life of anti-depressants, keeps them in the illusion that they are happy. Please join us Thursday to hear the truth about depression and a cure.

You can also listen to ‘Uplift Your Life: Nourishment of the Spirit‘ live every Thursday at 8am PST or On Demand anytime.

Scott Alexander: Mental Wellness, A Choice You Can Make By Leslie Carol Botha

HolyScott Alexander Hormones Honey! Tune in for Leslie Botha’s latest Episode  “Scott Alexander: Mental Wellness- A Choice You Can Make” airing May 1st 9am Pacific Time on the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel.

Scott Alexander spent most of his life depressed. In 2010 he lost his job, and his life, career, and identity was gone.  Devastated he spiraled into a pit of alcohol, muscle relaxers and pain meds.  He developed sleep anxiety and would toss and turn for hours.  He’d take a pill or three and chase them with vodka…praying he would sleep.  He knew he would wake up hung over and groggy, and that people would comment he looked ill…if they only knew.  His closest friends knew something was wrong, but Scott could never admit it.  He had lied about it for so long; he didn’t know how to tell them the truth.

Now Scott is 42 and feels better than he has in years.  For the past 23 months he has been taking EMPowerplus™Q96  His head is clear, the depression and anxiety have eased.  Scott’s story is not fresh or unique. It’s a story shared by millions of people who appear to be ‘happy go lucky’ while hiding their depression.  This is one man’s story. But how many of us can relate?

A ‘Mad’ Woman’s Story of Psychosis to ‘Happily Ever-After’ by Leslie Carol Botha

bipolarTune in for “Holy Hormones Honey!” with Host Leslie Botha for her new episode “A ‘Mad’ Woman’s Story of Psychosis to ‘Happily Ever-After’ ” on the Voiceamerica Health and Wellness Channel on Thursday Feb. 27th 9am Pacific Time.

After years of misdiagnosis, and RX drugs Cynthia Grace Fitzgerald-Costanzo moved from mania to the darkest depression and suicidal ideation that even her psychiatrist and therapist said they had ever seen.

At one point Cynthia felt strong enough to pursue a natural alternative to resolve her symptoms. She set out to CURE herself and to shed the label and stigma of being bi-polar. She wanted options that would give her another avenue to health other than the only choice but to see her “shrink” every month while he “patted me on the head to make sure that I knew ‘I had to take the meds for the rest of my life’ and if I didn’t comply it would be back to the psych ward.” According to Cynthia, “This is the worst manipulation going on in this country and it has to STOP.”

Today Cynthia is thriving had has started a movement to engage individuals labeled with mental health disorders that society has chosen to give them all for the sake of absurd amounts of profits.

Guest Bio:

Study Reports Significant Robust Improvement in ADHD and Depression with Micronutrient Protocol By Leslie Carol Botha

medicineHoly Hormones Honey! Tune in for Leslie Botha’s latest Episode  “Study Reports Significant Robust Improvement in ADHD and Depression with Micronutrient Protocol” airing Thursday Feb. 20th 9am Pacific Time on the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition and the most commonly diagnosed psychiatric disorder in childhood often persisting into adulthood.  As many as one in 20 adults have ADHD marked by symptoms such as inattention and lack of concentration, impulsiveness, and difficulty controlling behavior. Many other symptoms are associated with ADHD including hyperactivity, bipolar and panic disorders, anxiety, depression, and social anxiety.  Micronutrient treatment found to be more effective than placebo Researchers at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch New Zealand used a double blind study finding that the nutritional supplement Truehope EMPowerplus™ has significant benefits for adults with psychiatric symptoms of ADHD, depression, hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. Dr. Julia Rucklidge and her team of researchers successfully completed the placebo-controlled study, which was published Jan. 31 in The British Journal of Psychiatry.

Cella’s Chat: How Did I Get Here? By Marcella Zappia

depressioneye[1]

From side of the fence to the other side, I cannot begin to tell you how I got here.  The one thing I can tell you, however, is that “yes, life is worth living” and I am proof!   Three years ago the title of this blog would have been “no, life is crap and I am outta here….”   Seriously, that is just about where this fabulous creation called stress lead me.  That tiny, little word is full of giant repercussions.  Never would I have thought that this word would work its way so quietly into my whole being.  It snuck up on me and “bam” it had me in its hawk-like claws…piercing my whole being and not letting go for anything.  I felt helpless against “it,” like it was my enemy and it wanted to destroy me no matter what.  Daily I would try to lift my spirits up and see the “positive” side of life but the stress continually grabbed me and dragged me deeper and deeper into a great abyss.  This lead into anxiety and then that word no one wants to hear – “depression.”  Oh no, not me! “I” cannot be depressed, what the heck is that?  I mean, I am Superwoman, right?  Yeah, with a capital “S”…I could raise two boys who decided while their dad was away at sea to test my skills against those with the local fire marshals, police, guidance counselors, principals, neighbors and lawyers while taking care of a home, yard, pool, bills, a full time job, family drama, mother and mother-in-law all while smiling and doing yoga!  Wasn’t this normal?

So, when this body of mine started breaking down, my logical mind said “hey, what horrible disease do I have?”  I mean, literally my body was diminishing before my eyes and I had every symptom of every disease you could imagine.  No kidding!  I was poked, prodded, tested, scanned, x-rayed, scoped, biopsied, etc.  I had so many x-rays and CT scans I should glow and I was the equivalent of a human pincushion.  My clothes were falling from my body to such a degree that the safety pins that I put on each side of my pants were not even holding them up anymore.  I thought they were a fashion statement, however.  I was ok with this, my friends and family were not.  “Your depressed” was the word I would hear but the thought of watching another commercial for Cymbalta or any of the other million drugs for depression really didn’t do much for me.  Did you ever notice when you have something wrong with you, every commercial on television is about that problem?  What was wrong with everyone, I was sick, not depressed and just because I totally stopped sleeping – no lie – was no reason for alarm.  I suppose once I couldn’t concentrate or drive a car anymore was about the time I started to consider I might be depressed.

For anyone interested in the rest of this story – check in for the next post.  I promise, it sounds bleak but there is an incredible silver lining!!
