The Lies of Obesity: What Your Body Wants You To Know

Eating

This reality is a huge perpetrator of the lies of obesity, and it’s why so many people are frustrated with diets, the so called “experts”, themselves and their bodies.

Could you be unknowingly functioning from some of these lies?  Here are three of the many lies you may have bought.

Lie number 1.
Our bodies are unconsciousness objects that should bend to our will.  What if your body IS actually conscious?  What if it knows what is best for it?  The idea that we should “have dominion” over our bodies springs from religious tenants that tell us we are far greater than our bodies, as well as the earth and the animal kingdom.  Does that seem heavy or light to you?  How much of a superior attitude do you have to take to believe that? Has that attitude ever worked for you?

Once we actually acknowledge that our bodies are consciousness, all kinds of new possibilities open up.  Partnering with our bodies, instead of trying to lord it over them, takes us from the place of antagonism to a space of cooperation.  Can we over ride our bodies and their knowing?  Absolutely, though the results are seldom what we think they should be and the results seldom last.

What if you honored your body rather than exercised power over it?  How much could that change for you?

Lie number 2.
The experts know more than you do about how you should treat your body.  Why should anyone know more about what’s good for your body than you?  Doesn’t the idea of imposing someone else’s regime on your body seem a little ludicrous?  Most of us were taught early on that we can’t trust ourselves to know what we know, and we should always trust the “experts”.  This insures that we will be able to be controlled, and that we will never step into the communion that’s possible with our bodies.  What if you were willing to begin to know what was true for you, which includes the capacity to communicate with and listen to your body?  What if you became your own “expert?

Lie number 3
Curing obesity requires will power.  Willpower is a highly touted concept in this reality but let’s take a closer look at what it actually entails. The idea implies that we should come to a decision, then impose it with what amounts to force, effort and violence on ourselves or our bodies.  Notice there’s no question in “willpower”, nor is there any possibility of change.  How well do you respond when someone tries to force something on you?  If you’re like most of us, forcing creates a huge amount of resistance and a kind of “to heck with you” attitude!  Using will power also necessitates us overriding and cutting off our knowing, if it contradicts what we have already decided we should do.  If you use will power in connection with your body, what are the chances your body is apt to do what you want it to do? Probably slim to none!  All that will power does is to set up resistance and reaction and a battle.  Are you willing to let go of will power in favor of question and knowing?

These are just three of the may lies that this reality perpetrates about obesity.  Are you interested in learning more?

Access Consciousness is presenting a groundbreaking tele-series on the Lies Of Obesity. Could exposing these lies create a totally different way for all of us to relate to and work with our bodies?  What if the failure to change what goes on with our bodies has little to do with what we eat and how much we exercise or don’t exercise? Gary Douglas, the founder of Access Consciousness and Donnielle Carter, co-author of Right Body For You, have assisted thousands of people in successfully changing their relationships with their bodies from one of force and antagonism to one of joyful cooperation and communion.

What if the kingpin of all of this had to do with judgment? Donnielle says:  “When I see a person who’s obese I never see them covered with fat, I see them covered with judgment.” She goes on to say: “Anyone who is judging their body (and who doesn’t?) is actually being abusive to it.”  It’s this judgment (abuse) that sets up the estrangement between ourselves and our bodies.

Whether it’s about  gaining enormous amounts of weight or our bodies breaking down, learning how to stop judging our bodies creates a completely different possibility.

What if obesity isn’t difficult to change?  What if gorging on judgment is more of a killer than gorging on food?

Are you interested in a new paradigm that will give you the tools and information to successfully alter how your body shows up?

What if your body could be your best friend? This tele-series is for anyone who has an issues with their body, and will invite you to all of the magic your body can be!

Addressing The Lies Of Obesity begins December 16.  Click here to sign up.

Gary Douglas, Dr Dain Heer and Ricky Williams discussed a totally different perspective on obesity on the Voice America Empowerment Channel Show. For more information visit our Access Consciousness Blog.

I am a better person now than I was 6 years ago, and better still than I was eight or twelve years ago, and I don’t want to even mention sixteen years ago. But at each of those points in time, I was happy, and doing what I thought was the right thing. I made a few good choices that led me down a happier path, and I’m better off, as well as a better person, because of those choices. The trick is that, every day, we have those choices. If you make good, fundamental choices every day, you will see positive effects in your life. Here are a few of the key choices I make.

1. Build Great Relationships
I want to have the best relationship I can possibly have with my family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances. If you have that loving, caring consistency with your spouse or significant other, children, parents, and any other family, you will have a strong chance of having great relationships with everyone you come in contact with. For my spouse, I write what I call “Ambush Notes” and slip them in her lunch box or leave them hidden in the newspaper, or somewhere where she will find it. It costs nothing, means a lot and she has kept them all over the years. If we can do nice things we can be a better person, and it carries over to all of our friendships, try doing something small, a compliment, a hug or just notice a little thing and say something. Good perpetuates good.

2. Build Structure Into Your Life
With the busy-ness of our 21st century, will all need to give to ourselves more of the quality of life tools that can make us improve our own self-esteem. Make it a priority to give to yourself the time you deserve as a reward for all of your hard work, anything you enjoy doing, and do it daily. Don’t let busy-ness steal your personal time; busy-ness will drag you down. Whether it’s 10 minutes of stretching and walking, or 15 minutes of reading, or 20 minutes of meditation, the point is that it must be a gift you give yourself. Before you can share love with others you must love yourself first.

self_improvement_1

3. Create A Vision
If you had a magic wand, what would you create with it? Planting the seed of improvement, or dreaming of that goal that you have in your mind is hugely important to our future successes. If you can imagine it then you can achieve it; that may sound far-fetched, but take it from a guy who is living the dream, if you can’t see it, you will never achieve it.

4. Positive Mental Attitude
I truly believe that the law of attraction is a viable force in our universe. If you carry yourself with the feeling that life is a beautiful, and that we are the capable of achieving our dreams, then a positive attitude will draw those dreams to you (even if you merely convince yourself to make the necessary changes, then that is the mystical force driving the attraction). Be willing to build on all of the positives in your life, take this from the guy who did spend many years in the dark hole of alcohol and substance abuse, living with an upbeat demeanor will spill over into all that you come in contact with, and that it is completely possible without the temporary feelings delivered by drugs and alcohol. Practice gratitude thoughts and appreciate your positives. Do not diminish the small inconsequential normalcies of life.

5. Give To Others
In today’s society we are in need of all of the knowledge and assistance that people can donate and deliver. Take your special skill set and share it with another person, be a good listener, mentor others and share your abilities with groups in need. By becoming engaged you will reap such rewards that you will be amazed at how it can not only impact the lives of others but impact your own as well. Part of improving my life has been through finding what I am good at and sharing it. Which is why I love doing the talk show so much: it is a verbal outlet to helping many, bringing knowledgeable people together to share the goodness of life. I call it the “Refirement Zone” for a reason, igniting our lives takes thinking about what we truly want, by giving back we do.

I want us all to improve our quality of life! Everyone, you, me, the lady down the street, the guy changing your oil, everone!

I listen to talk radio a lot. Being a talk show host leads you into the talk show world and I always want to improve not only the vocabulary, find new issues to talk about and I just enjoy the learning process. So I have been hearing this term “Unfunded Liabilities” quite a bit and I know it is election season so we hear all kinds of issues. This one, however, is something I want to talk about in depth, as it really gets my motor firing. I am convinced that the best way to deal with our nation’s unfunded liabilities is for each and every one of us to deal with our own, personal, unfunded liabilities of health, fitness, happiness, and finances.

unfunded_liabilities_51

In our efforts to build the American dream, encourage people to work hard and be good law abiding citizens our society invented the safety net of social services and financial back-ended rewards such as pensions and social security. Great motivators, and I am all about motivation, however when you put in the time and then the reward is not there when you need it creates the “great consternation”, this my friends is called “Unfunded Liabilities”.

If you borrow money from a bank, you are expected to pay it back. If you gamble at a casino on your credit card, you are expected to pay back your losses. If you promise a friend to help them in the future, your friend expects you to help. If you don’t have the cash to pay back the loan, squander your credit on gambling, or have no intention of helping your friend, those are “Unfunded Liabilities” which will damage your relationship. A bank can harm your credit rating, and you might lose the friend; the gambler may bring some real hurt to collect the debt.

Ignoring debt can only make matters worse, putting your head in the sand will not protect you when the tsunami hits the shore. Unfunded liabilities, entitlements, pensions and the like started as great ideas. However moving forward into the future they have become the albatross around our country’s neck.

unfunded_liabilities_3

We don’t have to do it alone. We can help each other solve our own problems… together. Friends help friends, neighbors help neighbors, and, ultimately, citizens reach out to each other to improve our collective health, fitness, and finances. That will make a lot of us happy.

It is time to step up and fix things. Through adversity grows opportunity I like to say.

I call this idea the Boomers Rock 21st Century Deal.

We need to become engaged in the process of improving our QOL (quality of life), because our road trip is just beginning and we need all of the tools and supplies that will make this a memorable road trip into the future, so what are these “tools and supplies”?

Here is the start of our list, and I would like everyone to contribute their own thoughts. No idea is a bad idea; that’s why it’s called “Boomers Rock”, not “Boomers Die”!

Live in the moment and look forward to the future. Reminiscing is Ok but we have way too many cool things coming to dwell.

Take small steps to improve your QOL. Great road trips take planning, making changes in your life takes time. Use your imagination, set goals, adopt a positive mental attitude. Now we are talking!

Accept the fact that to worry about unfunded liabilities and entitlements is a waste of time. Strategize, find your passion and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Build your foundation for the roadtrip by equipping the bus with all of the tools that will empower us to have a blast. Whether it’s education, training, or volunteering, nutrition, fitness and rest, all of these tools need to be in our toolbox.

unfunded_liabilites_4

I have been building our collective mindset on the talk show to think in the present and our futures in regard to our finances with anticipation not dread. I do not like to do negative talk radio, so focusing on our family of listeners and knowledgeable guests, our collective is in the light of positivity. So that is where the concept of “Refirement” came to life.

The “igniting your life” and kicking “Retirement” to the curb is the mindset of all of us at the “Boomers Rock” nation. Jump on the proverbial bus, make our voices strong, and find your seat! There are plenty available on the bus, welcome aboard!

peace

MiddleLiving- Your Second Adolescence by Tom Matt

On the radio show I talk at length on the subject of “looking forward” to our future years. Looking backward, in my case, being such a self-absorbed user during the dark years, that focusing on being 25 or 30 years old again would be frankly a nightmare.

Not everyone had the past that I had, halleluiah! I realize that some people were conscientious, non- abusers who could enjoy life without alcohol or drugs to cloud the moment. So maybe your younger years are worthy of wistfully reminiscing, if that is the case that is perfectly cool. Let’s use that as our launching point or a goal to reach for.

I will make a deal with you, I want you to really consider this plan I am about to lay out. Stick with it for a month and if you can honestly say you don’t feel better, or have a better outlook then I will email you a free copy of my book.

How does that sound?

Ok, here we go:

Adolescence-
Definition – (from Latin: adolescere meaning “to grow up”) is a transitional stage of physical and psychological human development.

Middlescence-
Definition – the middle-age period of life, especially when considered a difficult time of self-doubt and readjustment.

So in my opinion our ‘Second Adolescence’ is the combination of the teenage type feeling of growth and wonderment combined with solving the difficult time and self-doubt of readjustment that middle age can bring on. Do you like the thought? Ok so here is the key.

I believe we have a major significant item in all of our lives, one thing that is the numero-uno as far as importancy, and that is ‘Time’.
Embracing this concept will change your life, it did for me.

Time is a finite resource. We all may come to that critical point of self-reflection, be it an illness, an injury, a loss of a loved one, whatever, that we realize that it is time to belly up and become accountable, it certainly did for me, actually a couple of times to be honest. We take time for granted, but it never pauses to do tomorrow what you could do today.

Multi-tasking and procrastination are the norm in today’s fast paced world, which is kind of strange because with all of the technology you would think we are more efficient with our time, we aren’t. Playing ball with our kids, or attending a game or recital for our grandkids today cannot be recaptured tomorrow.

middle_living_2

Building a stronger personal relationship with our families, those quality moments, the quality of time and life moments must be taken or the moment is lost, because tomorrow never comes, and yesterday is over. We live in the now and today is the day to accept time for what it is, a gift.

Embracing that our ‘Second Adolescence’ is a combination of growth and wonderment, where we embrace our self-doubt and insecurities, it is the fuel to increase( perhaps expand is a better way of thinking, but you probably see where we are going with this) our time, it incentivizes us, it glows like new found energy, and it is available to anyone who wants it, it costs nothing (but is so valuable) and bears tremendous return of your investment.

middle_living_1

Our aging process, our maturation into “Second Adolescence’ is sometimes like looking into the fog, if you keep looking hard enough and the fog clears, there are many items we may be afraid to embrace, they make the murkiness of the fog sometimes thick. Other things we fear could be drivers to self-improvement.

Failure for example is one of those drivers.

Failure in our lives can be used as a useful impetuous to improvement, trying new things and keeping that focus on the abundance of our future is the key.

Embracing failure as a reason for continuing a goal can build self-confidence, failure earlier in our lives can empower.

When I founded Boomers Rock I saw a need , and I needed to build a team, it is helping me to achieve things I never dreamed of accomplishing, and giving back is therapeutic to me, it motivates me to stay energized and be an example of how change and improvement is possible for anyone and everyone.

Maximizing our time is the key, focusing on your dream is the goal, working together is our mission.

middle_living_3

Middle age has unlimited potential, the possibilities are overwhelming and exciting, embrace our legacies and we can do a better job of leading and teaching, let’s show our younger generations we care about their futures, because if we do that our futures will be exciting, lively and joyous!

Try these thoughts, in your own way, and like I said if in one month you don’t see a change, you don’t feel a little bit better about things, send me an email to
Tom@boomersrock.us

Put in the heading book and it will be on its way, my gift to you! Read, enjoy, join the movement, it is all good!

Peace!

To retire is to end something. It does not necessarily mean we have completed that something, or that something is over. We retire at the end of the day to go to sleep, but the day is not over. Our bodies use that time of sleep to re-energize, to heal, to prepare for the next thing – which is to begin again in a new day. Many people look forward to retirement from their work so that they might do nothing ever again.

But if you took that approach with sleeping, I bet you’d stay awake.

I dislike the word “retirement.” The AARP recently dropped “retirement” from its acronym (in fact, it’s not an acronym at all, but is now on echoic of a tiny dog barking “arp! arp!” to match their new mascot, a Malt-York-Shitz-Poo-Terrier with fleas). This is the 21st century and the concept of retirement needs a major facelift–I call it entering the “Refirement Zone”.

refirement_3

As host of the radio talk show “Boomers Rock” it is my passion, my mission and my zest for all things fun that drives me to build our social collective, keeping us boomers active and socially integrated and on top of our game. Once you enter the “Refirement Zone” it is all about igniting your life, finding that “thing” that brings joy, keeps you active, and connects you to friends. It’s learning from each other and loving our lives.

Igniting your life is not about looking back; it is about living in the moment and building a successful future that holds an exciting, empowering energized state of mind unparalleled in its force. It is the collective state of mind that drives us into the “Refirement Zone.”

Baby Boomers have an unprecedented opportunity to rebuild the perception of retirement. We have access to medical care, access to knowledge about nutrition, fitness, and psychological well-being, and convenient access to new ideas about our world. If you are 65 years old, you potentially have another 35 years to go; the quality of those years are influenced most by your attitude, approach, and habits!

refirement_1

At 65 you are way too young to do nothing, and at 45 you still may have young children to put through elementary school. You could have softball and soccer games in your future, bake sales and football rallies, teaching kids to ride a bike or how to swim. Your future will be limited primarily by your beliefs. Your imagination and initiative can open a new world of possibilities.

It is use or lose it, that is my message to all of us!

I like to talk about this tipping point in our society when all of us enter the “Boomers Rock” collective, join the “Refirement Zone” movement, ignite our lives and lead. Take our collective knowledge, passion for life, wisdom and experience and change the world, just like the 60’s and 70’s, there was no sitting around, it was time for expansion of creativity, thought and energy.

Creationism at its finest and a collective mindset that changed history; that is where we find ourselves again, our collective is going to be known as the “Boomers Rock Generation”, where giving back to society, helping others and looking forward to our future is the collective mindset, we are not going to allow entitlement programs bother us as they shrivel and disappear. We are going to be self- sufficient, empowered, enlightened and have strength in our collective voice. That my friends is my view of the future. Join me for an exciting ride.

refirement_2
As far as I’m concerned, the word “retirement” is now officially retired, put away, discarded, no longer used. I don’t want anything to do with anything even remotely similar. What I need, what you need, and what our world needs is to live life to its absolutely fullest, to go all out in capturing our dreams, fulfilling our potential, living life to its full potential. Goodbye retirement, hello ReFirement!

Feel that energy, grab on with all you’ve got and let’s get this started! Feel the difference already? You bet!

Try these thoughts, in your own way, and like I said if in one month you don’t see a change, you don’t feel a little bit better about things, send me an email to

Middle Living-The Only Way to Live

Middle Living-The Only Way to Live

boomer_happiness_3

Creating value, now that is something we as Americans know a thing or two about!

Say what you want about financial markets and creative manipulation of dollars and equity, or the collective elitism of certain areas of our country in regard to technology (see Silicon Valley), we Americans are really good at creating value. Keep this in mind moving forward, especially anyone who is thinking about a career change (can you hear me boomers?) young and old alike we have tremendous upside. And I mean in a really huge, positive way!

Let me tell you how much I love Time magazine, from the science tips to the feature articles, the political takes, health and science to the satire, Time rocks! From Rana Foroohar, “Frenemies: A Trade Story”, Fareed Zakaria, “The Saudis Are Upset? Tough!” to the hilarity of Joel Stein, they all just get it completely done. However my newest favorite, this week anyway, is hands down Times Asian correspondent Michael Schuman and his article, “China Makes Everything. Why Can’t it Create Anything?”

I would like to say “way to go Mike!”

I have been sharing my views on baby boomers and the need to ‘transition’ into their collective 2nd or 3rd or maybe 4th career for almost three years now on my radio talk show “Boomers Rock”. Quality of life boomer style is all about staying integrated and engaged, employed and connected, mentoring and giving back, it is a mindset that lends itself to helping our collective society, young and old, build and rebuild. This is what we as Americans are really good at, teamwork!

boomer_happiness_2

As my new favorite Mike writes about the economy, “the U.S. growing at a sluggish 2.5% and Europe doing even worse, all eyes are on China as the worlds growth engine”, the coffee is brewing and I can hear that knocking of opportunity, boomers listen up. China has its issues, and the global economy is still pretty flat, but this newest of terms, ‘reshoring’ is growing, and it is this plus other positives that make me excited.

“Reshoring is the practice of bringing outsourced personnel and services back to the location from which they were originally offshored.”

I like to think of this period in time as the ‘game on’ phase of economic growth, the opportunity for mentoring and giving back, which leads to improving our knowledge base is a massive occasion in the 21st century. As Mike wrote in the above mentioned Time article, “a recent KPMG (one of the largest professional services companies in the world) report, 37% of the technology executives surveyed believed that the U.S. holds the most promise for producing disruptive technologies over the next four years”.

Americans create and think critically, that is what it takes to drive innovation!

boomer_happiness_1

I like to say through adversity grows opportunity, in the flattened globe bringing home jobs is such an upbeat movement that wasting this chance to set up our society for say the next fifty years appears to be within our reach. The re-tipping point, the point where the pendulum has swung back and forth twice is now upon us, and it is time to get excited and get involved in the solution. Baby Boomers now is not the time to think the dreaded R word (retirement), it is as I say on the talk show “walk into the ReFirement zone”. Time to pick up our game!

Skills that demand education, culture change that demands teamwork, disruptive technologies that demand critical thinking and the cojones to make it happen, now driving the engine of opportunity is clearly here. The Chinese are good at copying, their students are good at test taking, and their population numbers are massive, but the cheap labor days in China are over, and they are afraid of failure, it’s in their DNA not to rock the boat. Frankly if you cannot dream the big vision, see the next great innovation, or invent the next technology then you can never lead.

We are leaders, and we need to step up our game because the entire world needs us to continue to be disruptive and find alternative ways to accomplish the impossible.

So we have been making strides and efforts to get off the couch and put down the Lays potato chips, the tv remote and halleluiah our mindset toward fitness and exercise is improving. We all are very aware of the consequences of not moving more, (you see I have decided in an effort to drive home the mindset of QOL, quality of life, movement is our synonym for exercise) and with this new found energy we are making progress, fantastic.

However our new energy can lead to the dreaded INJURY, our new found exuberance has put us on the DL (disabled list) and dang it we lose our mojo. In other words workout burnout, please allow me to share a story, and perhaps we can together avoid this momentum killer.

In my own quest to lose the fifty I had acquired through my 40’s, the movement (workouts) I had been doing was adequate, and hey everyone starts somewhere. Every couch potato in the world starts at the bottom of the mountain, this one included. And let me preface this whole piece by stating that the limited and somewhat adequate workouts were enough to help me in 2008 when I had a serious illness to recover from.

After that epiphany, which is actually the first chapter in my book “The 200% Solution”, the workout efforts seriously got kicked into high gear, and that is where things started to get hairy and overuse, and workout burnout raised its ugly head.

Movement (exercise) and the neuro- chemicals that are released in our brain during exercise are very powerful, so powerful if you are not careful the desire to fuel the release of these, (endorphins, dopamine, serotonin) can lead to issues. Issues for example described as “avoidable” , can really take a toll on our body, knock us out of commission and put us right back on the couch, dang it!

So lets talk about over training and overuse which lead to workout burn out, or put another way, avoiding becoming a wounded warrior.

The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM, where I hold my certified personal training and fitness nutrition specialist certifications, weight loss specialist and senior fitness specialization) defines overtraining as:
“Excessive frequency, volume, or intensity of training, resulting in fatigue (which is also caused by lack of proper rest and recovery)”

Overuse injuries are similarly defined as:

“ Injury that involve repetitive submaximal loading of a particular musculoskeletal unit, resulting in changes due to fatigue of tendons or inflammation of surrounding tissues.”
In real people speak knock you back to the couch time! And this can really kill our momentum to get back into shape. It’s tough to imagine the goal, get rolling, start making progress and then crash into an injury, that my friends is not a trainers answer to getting into shape.

As I prepped for my first body building show in 2010, I was determined to make a good showing. I set the goal, had the coaching, (Chris Johnson of On Target Living) a great training partner Regie Reider, a 28 year old former college football player and I was not going to let either of them down. Chris and I both competed in the same division, the grand masters which is for men over 50, and so it went, for 16 weeks of double sessions, before and after work workouts, strict whole foods every 2 hours, we were ripped and cut cats by the time the show took place in April. And let me tell you it was great.

The problems started for me right after the completion. Soft tissue, tendons and cartilage need rest, they do not recover as quickly as muscles and when stressed out you have the perfect storm for tendinitis, and I developed the elbow version. It was a nagging issue that did not completely stop me from continuing to exercise, but let me tell you I was very close to having major issues, and that my friends is the classic definition of “workout burnout”. I was very lucky; don’t put yourself into that precarious situation if you can avoid it.

Do not become the classic gym rat, rolling into the gym and doing the same workout once a day, treadmill, elliptical, gotta stick to my routine because that is my comfort zone. That leads to thoughtless training, overuse, and staleness. It takes the fun right out of your day and puts you right back into the funk (which coincidentally the subject of another chapter in “The 200% Solution”).

Training smarter and having more fun will increase your pace, which can lead to a more efficient compact training session.

Recovery can be our friend, and sleep is our great equalizer. Your efficient workouts can help you become more adaptable in the sleep department. Good sleep takes effort and planning, however the payoff is huge. Your muscle recovery is enhanced, your work efforts are improved and your overall QOL benefits, and that is my friends is the name of our tune.
Ok so now we have an explanation, how about a routine, how do we train smart and avoid workout burnout? I am so glad you asked.

The following is a short list of to-do’s, of using your brain to not over train, check this out-

Why I should train smarter-
• Because you will recover more quickly.
• You may avoid an injury
• You will become more efficient/gaining speed/ increasing endurance
• And you will keep yourself feeling young and energized
• Your confidence will soar

Work out burn out can be avoided by trying these tips, and I have personally used them all at one time or another, they work, are not difficult and can help you meet your goals of enhanced QOL.

• Understand the “Kinetic Chain”, the concept is that every part of your body, including muscles, joints and nerves, must work together to produce movements. Posture, form and pace. It is quality above quantity
• Vary your workouts- Look at your training this way, one hard day followed by two easy days keeps you not only fresh, the routine flexible but gives you recovery time needed to heal.
• Heart rate monitors- I use a Polar, and have for several years now. I believe it keeps me on track and is a good monitoring device
• HIIT training- High intensity interval training, quick hitters between sets, I am a jump rope guy and believe everyone should try it, 30 seconds of lunges, squats or jumping jacks will work just as well
• Cross training-Runners try cycling, lifters try yoga, cardio people try resistance training, varied training can not only prevent the dreaded burnout, but you may become aware of something you like. Like the old saying, “variety is the spice of life”.

So as we move forward into our forward chapters, the “transition years” think about the positives and the possibilities for affirmative growth. We are at a special place in the history of our country, and through personal accountability in regard to our health and wellness we can all make a difference. Keep that in mind as we make strides to slowly improve, small steps, life is a very long and fruitful journey as long as we don’t overdue and move to quickly and expect too much too fast.

Peace,

A video for inspiration.

The Orgasmic Body

hands

Pleasure? Orgasm? Joy? If you experienced childhood sexual abuse, these words may seem foreign. And they may even seem an impossibility. This is because during childhood sexual abuse, your body, energy and space are invaded. The experience can become too painful to tolerate. There is fear, confusion, shock, and in many cases dissociation. This is when you check out and split off your awareness from what is going on in your body. As a result you may now find yourself closed off to feeling anything: pain and pleasure.

Your body, your sexualness and your relationships are all impacted by the insidious ghost of abuse. Your abuse is still controlling you, even though it was years ago. Dissociation locks in your body all the pain and shame. You then struggle with opening up to receiving any kind of support, pleasure and intimacy. This causes great challenges in your relationships, your health, your finances and specifically your body. So what do you do to take the control back? How do you unlock your body from this pain so you can begin to enjoy being you and being in your body?

Join us for this revolutionary conversation in which we answer these
questions and more in my upcoming radio show, “Beyond Abuse, Beyond Therapy, Beyond Anything,” on June 17th @ 10am PST/1pm EST. I’ll be joined by Dr. Dain Heer, Co-Founder of Access Consciousness and author of, “Being You Changing the World.” Dain will share his own unique perspective on how he overcame his abuse and went on to experience greater pleasure, joy and the “orgasmic body.” For more information please visit my website Dr. Lisa Cooney.
