BCM and Lessons Learned from a Historical Perspective

As part of a well-functioning BCM/DR program, we should be learning from our mistakes and ensuring we can adapt and learn from the events of the past. For most, the assumption is we will learn from only our mistakes and not the mistakes of others or the past. We speak with business expert and author John Vespasian who will provide us insights on business continuity and how history can teach us about planning and lessons learned to improve our BCM/DR thinking and efforts. We’ll talk about that by not validating conditions caused problems for Berblinger; how some groups were able to survive the Black Death; how Ancient Greece was able to survive using good planning over the mighty Persian Empire and even how risk assessments ensured the survival of an Antarctic expedition. It’s quite an enlightening and eye-opening episode chock full of interesting perspectives.

“Of all of the gifts that life has to offer, a loving mother is the greatest of them all”  Anonymous

• Asya Gonzalez and Maria Wong host a program dedicated to the amazing women who give birth or raise children around the world, sacrificing of themselves to offer their children a better life. Special guest is author of We Were the Lucky Ones, Georgia Hunter, tracked her grandfather, his parents, and his siblings – a family of Polish Jews – as they scatter at the start of the Second World War, determined to survive – and to reunite. In 2000, a family reunion opened her eyes to the astounding war stories of her grandfather and his family. Brigitte Jia traces the importance of the Mother/Child relationship through art. In nature, the bond between mother and child is one of the strongest possible. Your mother brought you out into the world, and she defines it throughout your early years. A mother helps to shape the individual as a person.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s of the World! We thank you for your dedication.

BIO:  Georgia Hunter
Georgia was in high school when, thanks to a research assignment, she discovered that she was a quarter Jewish, and that she came from a family of Holocaust survivors. Fifteen years later, Georgia set off with digital voice recorder and an empty moleskin notebook to unearth and record her family’s remarkable story. She spent nearly a decade traversing the globe interviewing relatives and digging up records from every possible source she could think of, eventually piecing together the bones of what would become her novel, We Were the Lucky Ones.

The Holocaust, Author Colonel Charles Causey of The Lion and the Lamb By Cynthia Brian

If you are looking for upbeat, life-changing, and mind stretching information, you’ve come to the right place. Host Cynthia Brian takes you on a journey of exploration that will encourage, inspire, and motivate you to make positive changes that offer life enhancing results. It’s party time on StarStyle®-Be the Star You Are!®. And YOU are invited! Join us LIVE 4-5pm Pt on Wednesdays or tune in to the archives at your leisure. Come play in StarStyle Country.

From the Greek words “holos” meaning whole and “kaustos: meaning burned, historically the word Holocaust described a sacrificial offering burned on an alter.  In the 1940’s, Adolph Hitler changed the meaning of Holocaust which we now know as the horrendous mass murder and torture of over six million Jews plus four to six million non-Jews in his campaign for the “Final Solution” in his quest for racial Aryan purity. Cynthia Brian discusses the history of the Holocaust and anti-semitism then interviews author Colonel Charles Causey about his book, The Lion and the Lamb.

A novel of innocence, betrayal, and tragedy, The Lion and the Lamb is an absorbing tale of how war-torn people cling to the power of hope and faith. Colonel Charles Causey spent three years researching this history to bring this true Holocaust story of the suffering innocent and the morally extinguished leaders of the Third Reich. We’ll be thrust into this psychological torture chamber of Hitler and the Holocaust while meeting his second-in-command, architect Albert Speer and the Dutch woman, Corrie ten Boom who struggled to smuggle Jews to safety despite the danger to herself and family.

Bio: Colonel Charles Causey is an active duty Army chaplain who works for the Chief of Chaplains in Washington D.C. A recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in Iraq, he is also a marriage counselor and conference trainer. Married, and with four children who keep him very busy, Charles is also an author for Abingdon Press and NavPress/Tyndale House. He has written several literary works including the victorious 536-page Civil War novel “In Danger Every Hour” and a chilling moral thriller detailing WW II’s Holocaust “The Lion and the Lamb.” He loves to run, study history, and write about interesting people of faith. www.causeybooks.com

The Gift of Morality By Cynthia Brian

What is morality and do countries value morals? Hosts Maria Wong and Joven Hundal explore the meaning of morality in our world as they look at history. They discuss the Nazi regime of Hitler and his complete disregard and persecution of the “degenerate races” that characterized his immoral rule  devoid of values and humanity. Special guest author, Colonel Charles Causey, continues the theme with his work of nonfiction, The Lion and the Lamb: The True Story of A Powerful Nazi Leader and A Dutch Resistance Worker, focusing on the stories of Albert Speer and Corrie ten Boom in Nazi Germany.  Their contrast of characters clearly indicates what morality is and is not. Joven wraps up the show with a fascinating look into GMO’s, biotechnology, and asteroid mining while asking the question “How do we regulate the moral issues revolving around technology and the exploration of space?” “Morality is the basis of things and truth is the substance of all morality.”Mahatma Gandhi

The story of a Pearl Harbor Survivor

The story of a Pearl Harbor Survivor

stevekilleen

Mr.Edward Killeen told of being in the USS Tennessee’s crow’s nest early that morning, December 7, 1941, when “PING PING PING, metal hitting metal, you know. I wondered, What is going on? When we realized we were being attacked by the Japanese, I was commanded to sound the bugle and wake-up two thousand men sleeping below.” “It was a miracle I survived,” Mr. Killeen had said. Miracle, indeed. This gentleman is still standing after surviving not only the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but also the Battle of the Coral Sea, as a bazooka man on Saipan Island and as one of the proud US Marines on Iwo Jima.

THE HONOLULU STAR-BULLETIN 1ST EXTRA, on its Sunday December 7, 1941 front page read: WAR! OAHU BOMBED BY JAPANESE PLANES. Seventy years later, the platinum anniversary was about to begin. Five thousand veterans, relatives, dignitaries and citizens made their way to the harbor where it all began. Some survivors had not attended an anniversary service before. Both time and ability spurred these 80- to 90-year-old survivors to attend. From all across the United States the survivors made their way to the place it all started. Just as the sun began to light Pearl Harbor, Military Order of the Purple Heart National Commander Bill Hutton, Ladies National President Barb Cherone, National Safety Officer Harry Smart and National Historian James Klug arrived. Nearly 125 of the Greatest Generations survivors were there. Wearing white pants and aloha shirts, the survivors told their stories, had pictures taken and listened to expressions of appreciation. All remembered the wave after wave of 350 Japanese planes that streamed through the clouds. Eight battleships, six cruisers and 29 destroyers were targeted by the Japanese airplanes. The destruction to the Pacific fleet and military installations on Oahu was crippling.

Seventy years later, MOPH officers greeted every survivor they could, expressing gratitude and respect for their service and sacrifice on that fateful day. The mixture of sorrow and relief for having survived was on the face of each survivor. Yes, there were smiles, because they had survived this nation’s fiercest attack. Most of these survivors went on to fight for four years in the Pacific to bring defeat to the Japanese and victory to the United States of America. History’s account of the 7:55 a.m. attack on Pearl Harbor is still being written. Those that perished that morning probably never knew what hit them. But, this nation banded together like never before, so that their loss would not be in vain.

AHN

It has been said that we are only a generation away from forgetting our history. Disabled American Veterans struggle every day to overcome life-changing sacrifices. Their stories provides a vital part of history that has contributed to our American tradition.

American Heroes Network provides a way for individuals, corporations and small businesses to support our Heroes by helping our veterans and their families rebuild their lives. They help aim our veterans, looking for jobs, in the right direction, help provide homes for our troops, assisting individuals and their families who have been severely injured while serving in the U.S. military and providing scholarships for families of our Fallen Heroes.

This will be a weekly hour long show joined by our military heroes and people and organizations that make a difference. American Heroes Network airs live Tuesdays at 8 AM Pacific, powered by Voice America Variety.
