When you buck a big hierarchy like the Catholic Church, you can expect a fight. But perhaps the Vatican didn’t expect the fight back! Meet Rebecca Parrish, director of the inspiring film Radical Grace, which documents the struggle between U.S. nuns and the Catholic hierarchy. The film focuses on three remarkable nuns, including Simone Campbell (interviewed June 30 on InsideOut). Prior to Pope Francis, the Vatican launched an inquisition into American nuns and their social justice agenda, and it put a male bishop in charge of reforming them. The nuns and their allies pushed back. Ultimately Pope Francis called off the investigation and thanked the sisters for their dedication. This story transcends religion and women’s rights. It’s part of the Inner Revolution against mindless conformity and for the needs of real people. We’re thrilled to introduce you to director Rebecca Parrish. You’ll discover the story behind this film, Rebecca’s personal story and how making the film changed HER.

Is the Catholic Church Going Through an Inner Revolution? Meet Sister Simone Campbell and See for Yourself!

SisterSimone2015

In 2012 the Vatican cracked down on American nuns for challenging the hierarchy and focusing on social services and equality, rather than on abortion. Guilty as charged! Our guest Sister Simone Campbell and her organization NETWORK are Catholic sisters committed to awakening social conscience and lobbying for change. The Vatican specifically cited NETWORK, so Simone seized the opportunity to launch a series of tours called the Nuns on the Bus, attracting even more attention to the many social needs American nuns have been addressing. When Pope Francis was elected in 2013, he called on Christians to become revolutionaries caring for the poor and now he’s confronting climate change and our responsibility for it. He also met with representatives of America’s nuns and expressed his appreciation. Sounds like an Inner Revolution! Now Simone and two other nuns are the subject of a new documentary called Radical Grace. An activist touched by spirit, she’s is not alone. Tune in to ‘InsideOut‘ and learn more!

As children, many of us felt called to DO something to help our world. Some became dedicated activists. But many of us became discouraged or burnt out from the anguish and the anger of the movement itself. Then some of us found a new way. One such person is James O’Dea, former president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, the Washington office director of Amnesty International, author, philosopher and international peace worker. James is joining host Beth Green to talk about his latest book The Conscious Activist, where he describes his own journey from mysticism, to outrage, to a mature blending of his spirituality and his commitment to help. James is calling us to work on ourselves and face the suffering of the world and to learn to act from the insight gained from the depths of compassion. The Inner Revolution is the movement of people to change the world from the inside out. Meet James O’Dea, who is doing just that and lighting the way for others to do the same. Tune in, call in. Tune into InsideOut: The Inner Revolution with Beth Green, 6/9 at 3pm PT.

InsideOut Forum Discussion Call: The Corruption of Social Media and the Subversion of the Inner Revolution

corruption of social media

On the InsideOut Forum Discussion Call today we challenged ourselves and each other to look at how we and others have corrupted social media, how we have undermined the Inner Revolution by our self-centered or divisive, often erroneous, sharing. We could see how we have to change the way WE use social media, because THAT is the Inner Revolution, seeing what is wrong with the world and seeing what WE need to change to help that happen.
