The Gift of Appreciations
Every week, Express Yourself!™ will bring you a stimulating program based on a chapter from our award winning book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens.

With this week’s theme –– The Gift of Appreciation –– we here at Express Yourself!™ have a lot to appreciate! We have interviewed amazing guests, we have a first class crew, and we are a top rated program! In this program, we examine how you can recognize all the gifts that life affords you every day!

Whether it’s having a new pair of shoes, a hot cup of coffee, a warm blanket, or a hug from a friend, we all have little things in our life to be thankful for. Never forget to let that gratitude show!

Hosts Henna Hundal and Asya Gonzalez are honored to introduce an incredibly inspiring individual, Pulitzer Prize winner John McQuaid, with his newest book, Tasty. Tasty Explores how deliberate manipulation of flavor influences virtually every aspect of the human experience, from pleasure to pain, from joy to sorrow. John has written about topics such as city-destroying super-termites, the slow collapse of fishing communities, hurricane levee engineering, mountaintop removal coal mining, and the global flower business for major publications.

Henna and Asya end the program with simple tips for everyone to be more appreciative by being grateful, performing kind acts, writing notes, and many other ways to show appreciation. Henna is especially grateful this week as she just found out that she’s been accepted to her dream university, HARVARD!!! Way to go Henna!

Guest Bio:
John McQuaid has written about topics such as city-destroying super-termites, the slow collapse of fishing communities, hurricane levee engineering, mountaintop removal coal mining, and the global flower business for publications including Smithsonian magazine, The Washington Post, Wired, Forbes.com, EatingWell magazine and the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He is the co-author of Path of Destruction: The Devastation of New Orleans and the Coming Age of Superstorms. His work has won a Pulitzer Prize, as well as awards from the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the International Association of Culinary Professionals. He lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wife, son and daughter. The struggle to satisfy and understand the kids’ strange and contradictory food choices (the elder liked super-hot peppers and limes, the younger rice, pasta and cheese) was the inspiration for Tasty. www.tastybook.net
