Kristin-Engvig_142X130

Cheryl Esposito welcomes Kristin Engvig, founder & convener of the internationally acclaimed Women’s International Networking (W.I.N.) Conference & Global Leadership Forum.
Each year the WIN conference is held in a different locale in the world, with a unique theme. One of my favorites occurred in Rome with the theme Make Space: Find Possibilities. It drew nearly 1000 people to spend 3 days in Rome, working together to shape themselves for a world filled with possibility in the face of an uncertain future. It is time to leave what no longer works & courageously make space allowing something new into our lives as we reach for the stars.Kristin has gathered over 10,000 leaders to life-changing events across the globe. She is the creative mind & engaging spirit behind the face of W.I.N. Kristin is a visionary who transformed her idea of ‘bringing a more feminine, global and sustainable vision to work, communities and life’ into an opportunity to empower, develop and connect women leaders. Rojas-2

Cheryl Esposito welcomes Dr. Lyly Rojas, a university professor, international humanitarian, and co-founder of the European Institute of Collaborative Law. She specializes in the teaching the culture of Peace (inner and outer), Corporate Social Responsibility, and Multicultural Intelligence.

Lyly was born in Nicaragua, a country of conflict with a long history of turmoil, and ultimately her family had to flee because of their political beliefs. “I was born into a political family and we were ‘living’ international issues. I was born into a family where people were always making choices about staying and leaving and asking the questions: Where is home? Is it time to go or stay?”

She has worked with and consulted to the United Nations; as an advisor to the Vatican in the trafficking of human beings; in war zones training diplomats, human rights workers, the military, and tortured women and children. The unifying theme for her work: compassion and dignity for self and others. Lyly says that we cannot begin to help others heal if we cannot heal ourselves. “How can you teach peace if you are not peaceful within yourself?”

She helps individuals, families, groups, corporations, and entire nations to connect with their inherent peace making capacities, teaching conflict resolution, non-violent communication, corporate social responsibility, and multicultural consultancy skills. Her current book project is titled: From Inner Peace to Outer Peace and All the Pieces In Between.

Join Cheryl Esposito and Dr. Lyly Rojas to explore inner peace as the key to world peace.

Shailja-Patel_142X130

Cheryl Esposito welcomes Shailja Patel, an award-winning Kenyan poet, artist & political activist. Growing up in Kenya Shailja experienced the impact of war on the lives and spirit of the people. Her path took her on a journey from working on Wall Street to living a monastic life, running non-profits, eventually finding her voice in poetry. She uses text, voice, body and critical thinking to delve for truth and dissect power.Today she is a performance artist bringing her work to people around the world. Her one-woman show, Migritude, unfolds hidden histories of women’s lives in the bootprint of Empire, from India to East Africa.

Shailja’s powerful performances bring her audiences to an introspective space of connection with the raw emotion and impact of war and oppression. The irresistible passion and eloquence of her words touches people at a core level and inspires them to take action. I saw Shailja on the main stage at a Bioneers Conference with a standing room only crowd of hundreds of people. Her performance was breathtaking, and we were all moved so deeply – it was as if we were in a trance, not able to move from the moment. Have you ever truly “heard silence” ? It was as powerful as her oration. Then at once, the entire audience leapt to its feet and began applause and cheers and tears that went on and on. Following that performance Shailja said, “The fifteen-second pindrop silence after I finished my performance was worth three standing ovations.”

Words shape us. They inspire. Join the conversation with Cheryl Esposito and Shailja Patel for a conversation…inspired.

philo_ikonya_142x130

Leading Conversations is celebrating Women of the World in honor of International Women’s Day, March 8, and Women’s History Month in March. Cruise our archives to learn from great women of the world we have had in conversation!

This week, Cheryl Esposito welcomes Philo Ikonya of Kenya, a human rights activist, social change motivator, ardent poet, writer and lecturer.  Philo holds postgraduate degrees in the Arts, and consults on gender, governance and media issues.

Philo courageously writes about the injustices of Kenya. In her series, Kenya Is Burning, she reflects on her country’s struggles with the devastating violence that has claimed so many lives and turned its people against each other.  “The women of Kenya have always been aware of injustice in our society…we’ve always known that the deep inequalities in our country would lead to the destruction of this nation.”  To continue to be a voice against social and political injustices,  Philo has had to leave Kenya, where her life was threatened if she continued to speak out. Today she lives in exile.

When Philo was still living in Kenya, she decided to wear sacks instead of regular clothes to peacefully protest the violence in Kenya. She helped organize a campaign urging Kenyan women to wear sacks for clothes “for as long as we do not have peace in Kenya; as long as we do not have justice and reform.” She has taken action in the face of fear and is a voice for those who dare not speak. Maybe…just maybe…women will save the world. Join Cheryl Esposito & Philo Ikonya to hear this extraordinary story of courage and vision for a just world.
