The Gift of Sexuality

Teens talk and the world listens every Tuesday NOON PT on the Voice America Kids Network. Produced by StarStyle® Productions, LLC and Cynthia Brian, these young adults know how to rock and express their unique views. Join the fun!

What is sexuality? Most people will immediately assume we are talking about engaging in a sexual act, however, sexuality is not just about sex. From birth until death, every person is a sexual being. Sexuality defines our gender and can be a complex aspect of our personality. It is how we feel about ourselves. Sexuality is not so much about what you do, but who you are. Hosts Brigitte Jia and Katie Choo interview Dr. Karen Rayne about her book, GIRL: Love, Sex, Romance, and Being You, a growing-up guide for the 21st century by Karen Rayne, PhD—a nationally recognized educator, trainer, author, and expert in sexuality education. Welcoming and inclusive of all self-identified girls, GIRL is uncensored, unbiased, and jam-packed with what today’s teenage girls want and need to know about healthy sexuality, loving relationships, and gender fluidity, as well as thornier subjects such as STI’s, consent, and sexual assault. The hosts also read The Gift of Sexuality by Cynthia Brian and Heather Brittany from the book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens and Katie gives insights about careers involving the study of sexuality.

Karen Rayne Book, Girl.jpgKaren’s bio:

Karen Rayne, PhD, is an educator, trainer, and nationally recognized expert on sexuality. Karen lives in Austin, TX, where she runs a sexuality-education nonprofit called Unhushed, working with people of all ages to make information and conversations about sexuality accessible. Her goal is to ensure everyone has someone to talk with about sexuality and a place to find honest, accurate information. Because she can’t talk with everyone, she writes books like this one. http://karenrayne.com/

In the past few decades early childhood learning has changed radically. Now that kindergarten serves as a gatekeeper, not a welcome mat, to elementary school, concerns about school preparedness kick in earlier and earlier. Kids are being forced to work harder, but studies are showing they are learning less. Are kids being forced to read and write instead of talk, listen, and play? Heather Brittany sheds light on the shift from exploratory early-childhood teaching to the quest for achievement.

Moms around the world perform astronomical duties every day without much fanfare. One day a year these dedicated women are celebrated on Mother’s Day. Granted Mother’s Day was created as a commercial venue, yet it has become a special occasion to honor the person in our life who gave us life or provided us with life. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you marvelous mommas!

“Of all of the gifts that life has to offer, a loving mother is the greatest of them all”  Anonymous

• Asya Gonzalez and Maria Wong host a program dedicated to the amazing women who give birth or raise children around the world, sacrificing of themselves to offer their children a better life. Special guest is author of We Were the Lucky Ones, Georgia Hunter, tracked her grandfather, his parents, and his siblings – a family of Polish Jews – as they scatter at the start of the Second World War, determined to survive – and to reunite. In 2000, a family reunion opened her eyes to the astounding war stories of her grandfather and his family. Brigitte Jia traces the importance of the Mother/Child relationship through art. In nature, the bond between mother and child is one of the strongest possible. Your mother brought you out into the world, and she defines it throughout your early years. A mother helps to shape the individual as a person.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s of the World! We thank you for your dedication.

BIO:  Georgia Hunter
Georgia was in high school when, thanks to a research assignment, she discovered that she was a quarter Jewish, and that she came from a family of Holocaust survivors. Fifteen years later, Georgia set off with digital voice recorder and an empty moleskin notebook to unearth and record her family’s remarkable story. She spent nearly a decade traversing the globe interviewing relatives and digging up records from every possible source she could think of, eventually piecing together the bones of what would become her novel, We Were the Lucky Ones.

The Holocaust, Author Colonel Charles Causey of The Lion and the Lamb By Cynthia Brian

If you are looking for upbeat, life-changing, and mind stretching information, you’ve come to the right place. It’s party time on StarStyle®-Be the Star You Are!®. And YOU are invited! Join us LIVE 4-5pm Pt on Wednesdays or tune in to the archives at your leisure. Come play in StarStyle Country.

From the Greek words “holos” meaning whole and “kaustos: meaning burned, historically the word Holocaust described a sacrificial offering burned on an alter.  In the 1940’s, Adolph Hitler changed the meaning of Holocaust which we now know as the horrendous mass murder and torture of over six million Jews plus four to six million non-Jews in his campaign for the “Final Solution” in his quest for racial Aryan purity. Cynthia Brian discusses the history of the Holocaust and anti-semitism then interviews author Colonel Charles Causey about his book, The Lion and the Lamb.

A novel of innocence, betrayal, and tragedy, The Lion and the Lamb is an absorbing tale of how war-torn people cling to the power of hope and faith. Colonel Charles Causey spent three years researching this history to bring this true Holocaust story of the suffering innocent and the morally extinguished leaders of the Third Reich. We’ll be thrust into this psychological torture chamber of Hitler and the Holocaust while meeting his second-in-command, architect Albert Speer and the Dutch woman, Corrie ten Boom who struggled to smuggle Jews to safety despite the danger to herself and family.

Bio: Colonel Charles Causey is an active duty Army chaplain who works for the Chief of Chaplains in Washington D.C. A recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in Iraq, he is also a marriage counselor and conference trainer. Married, and with four children who keep him very busy, Charles is also an author for Abingdon Press and NavPress/Tyndale House. He has written several literary works including the victorious 536-page Civil War novel “In Danger Every Hour” and a chilling moral thriller detailing WW II’s Holocaust “The Lion and the Lamb.” He loves to run, study history, and write about interesting people of faith. www.causeybooks.com

The Gift of Morality By Cynthia Brian

What is morality and do countries value morals? Hosts Maria Wong and Joven Hundal explore the meaning of morality in our world as they look at history. They discuss the Nazi regime of Hitler and his complete disregard and persecution of the “degenerate races” that characterized his immoral rule  devoid of values and humanity. Special guest author, Colonel Charles Causey, continues the theme with his work of nonfiction, The Lion and the Lamb: The True Story of A Powerful Nazi Leader and A Dutch Resistance Worker, focusing on the stories of Albert Speer and Corrie ten Boom in Nazi Germany.  Their contrast of characters clearly indicates what morality is and is not. Joven wraps up the show with a fascinating look into GMO’s, biotechnology, and asteroid mining while asking the question “How do we regulate the moral issues revolving around technology and the exploration of space?” “Morality is the basis of things and truth is the substance of all morality.”Mahatma Gandhi

What are values?
The dictionary states that values are
the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. Or a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life.
Host Maria Wong tackles the subject of values with personal perspectives as a teen who deciding on the next step towards college choices. Your values are things that you prioritize and think are important in defining your life and work. Maria interviews Robin Roe with her novel, A List of Cages, who has written a raw, emotional, powerful novel with a strong message of kindness. Robin discusses her writing process, how she writes, her love for her former students, and her upcoming novel. Maria provides a Book Smart segment about her all time favorite book, Kira Kira by Cynthia Kadohata, a book that shaped many of her personal values and helps readers reflect on how experiences, family, culture, and location shape one’s value system.
“If we are to go forward, we must go back and rediscover those precious values – that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control”. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Value yourself! You have self worth!

·      Bio Robin Roe has a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a master’s from Harvard. She counseled adolescents in Boston before she moved to Dallas to run a mentoring program for at-risk teens.

No Good Card for This! By Cynthia Brian

Teens talk and the world listens every Tuesday NOON PT on the Voice America Kids Network. Produced by StarStyle® Productions, LLC and Cynthia Brian, these young adults know how to rock and express their unique views. Join the fun!

Spring has sprung and a time to celebrate the re-birth of nature is upon us. Host Asya Gonzalez reads producer, Cynthia Brian’s article aptly titled Flower Fever that sets the tone for this program celebrating spring, empathy, and Easter. (http://www.cynthiabrian.com/gardening-articles) Author of There is No good Card for This, Kelsey Crowe adds to the conversation discussing her illustrated guide to effective compassion that takes you, step by step by step, past the paralysis of thinking about someone in a difficult time to actually doing something (or nothing) with good judgment instead of fear. Her empathy menu offers support with confidence, no matter the situation. In the final segment, Asya talks about her family traditions for spring including fun activities for an Easter or spring break filled with joy, adventure, and playfulness.

BIO: Kelsey Crowe, Ph.D. is the founder of Help Each Other Out. Crowe earned her doctorate in social welfare at the University of California, Berkley and teaches social work at California State University. Crowe’s first book, There Is No Good Card for This: What To Say and Do When Life Gets Scary, Awful, and Unfair To People You Love), coauthored with Emily McDowell.  Written in a how-to, relatable, we’ve-all-been-that-deer-in-the-headlights kind of way, There Is No Good Card for This isn’t a spiritual treatise on how to make you a better person or a scientific argument about why compassion matters. It is a helpful illustrated guide to effective compassion that takes you, step by step by step, past the paralysis of thinking about someone in a difficult time to actually doing something (or nothing) with good judgment instead of fear.
Crowe’s organization Help Each Other Out is a growing collective of people embracing the idea that being there for others is often easier than we think, it can be learned, and that it matters. Taking the principles found in There Is No Good Card for This along with her many years of experience in the field and organization, a presentation with Crowe is not one to miss. From universities to health care organizations, every audience member will walk away feeling inspired.
Currently, Crowe resides in San Francisco, California with her husband and daughter. She hopes for a day when no one has to suffer a personal trial alone because the people around them just didn’t know what to do or say. http://www.helpeachotherout.com
