Making Your Life Easier on Yourself: Positive Framing

Sometimes the only thing needed to remove stress is a change of perspective.  Many times great mental and emotional stress is placed on a situation because of the mindset of the parties involved.  In my training of students in Tai Chi Chuan, I have come to find the lesson of “What is Winning?” as one of the hardest for people to grasp.  When training students there seems to be a grand necessity to win; however, when I ask my students what it means to them to win and I then ask them to match-up the ideas of winning they have with the ideals I have told them are held in the practice and study of Tai Chi Chuan, the students have a great inability to soundly match their ideas with the ideals that are being taught to them.  In that instant, the instant they realize that there is a major discrepancy of realities, I have come to find that students either end up leaving class shortly their after or they redirect their energies to better understanding what it actually means to win in the context of the Tai Chi Chuan.  Normally this paradigm shift happens in two situations: during practice of the solo- form and during practice with a partner or partners.

While training the solo-form some novice students get bored with repeating patterned sequences.  While training, many novices become progressively less attentive to the form of each posture and the transitions in the progression, and in many other cases they simply stop doing the exercise all together and they either start to do something else or do nothing at all.  I approach each situation differently depending on the student; however, the message is always the same: “You seem bored”.  I ask them to not think of the process as doing work to get to the next point.  I ask them to focus directly on what it is they are doing without worry or stress over what it is they do not know and/or have not been presented.   I tell the students once they are completely comfortable with what they are currently doing they open up the opportunity to progress to the next point without strain or stress.  I point out they never get comfortable with where they are because they are so strenuously focusing on the next point that it causes unnecessary mental and emotional stress.  Worrying over the unknown ruins the progress of the known and the present.  So even if they can do the postures shown, their unease, their worry and stress over the unknown, causes negative effects on their current situation and closes any opportunity for efficient progress.  If they change the way they perceive their current situation; if they focus directly on the positive growth that can be gained from where they are and what they are currently attempting to accomplish, they will naturally progress to the next level with ease and not stress.

To the point of working with people doing partner work, and seeing students having negative issues with their progressions, I have noticed many points as an instructor where I see the opportunity to help students gain a better understanding of changing their outlook to evoke positive growth.  When monitoring partner work, one way I have come to find, with those that allow me the opportunity to engage them, for a change in perspective is when I see someone who comes to the state function of a drill shown; however, their actions are completely inefficient.  What I have gleaned is that many students inefficiently force an issue to get to the state function of a drill given. What has a tendency to happen in these situations is one of the participants, or multiple participants, begins a battle to struggle overly muscularly to gain advantages of position.  This is never the point of any of the partner drills in Tai Chi Chuan. What I have come to find through instructing is that participant(s) get more involved in the idea of competing to win as oppose to studying and practicing to gain proper skill.  What happens is the will to defeat and compete overrides the nature of the teachings Tai Chi Chuan provides, of which include minimal effort to produce the maximum product to a total positive gain throughout all point of a situation.  The participants that decide to progress a negative framework as their base to produce the state function frame the encounter as a battle with a definite winner and loser.  This mindset has the tendency to breed inefficient skill and inefficient technique with high occurrence.   Giving tactile examples in these circumstances to the participants who are struggling through the drill progressions is one of the most efficient ways I have come to find to start the change of their paradigm.  I allow each participant to do what they did during the drill; however, I allow them to do it with me so they can feel the difference, so they can feel the different types of energies put forth to reach the desired state function.  I tell the participants that I do not frame the encounter as a battle; I do not see the situation as something I have to conquer.  I do not believe that there is a point of winning or a point of losing.  Everything that is done is a point from which I can efficiently study and properly learn.  So in essence I am always gaining.

Having the mindset of not caring of winning or losing throughout my training, not focusing on defeating someone as a point of victory versus shame, opens the opportunity for me to gain the skill of gaining advantages without the product of stress or strain.  Freeing myself from the confines of portraying those around me as combatants, as negative beings, allows me the opportunity to see and focus on multiple and more efficient ways of dealing with situations.

To me life should never be about winning or losing.  When properly done, living should always produce positive gains.  To me life is about taking every opportunity and framing it as such that there is never a stress or a strain on my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual self; so that no matter what I do I allow for the positive and natural occurrence of the opportunity of prospering efficiently to always produce itself and always to take efficient advantage when efficient opportunities present themselves.  In my training, study and instructing of the Tai Chi Chuan, I have come to find that removing the need to defeat to win, removing the worry and stress of the unknown, and replacing it with the positive mindset of efficiently taking advantage of situations leads to one having greater opportunities for positive natures and opportunities to occur.  It is up to us to always take efficient advantage of positive natures and opportunities. It is up to us to remove ourselves from our habits that affect us negatively.   It is up to us to place ourselves in positive frameworks we produce so that we are able to take efficient advantages of conditions when they present themselves.

When a vision comes, it does require our belief and faith. It also asks us to watch the signs, the conversations with the universe’ that appear along the way.  The last step is to be fluid and flexible with the plans, not controlling or manipulating life to fit what we want rather than what is in our best interest. Well, I have been committed to the unknown path of the Rebel Road and I was guided from last November that certain things would appear such as invitations, connection and… an RV! Guess what. It came!

We have been taught to view places a sacred sites. So, when we venture there, we place ourselves in a star to receive, know, and allow a deeper experience of ourselves. However we were not really taught to view ourselves as sacred sites; equal to any sacred place on the planet. Even morose, we were not all taught to view others with sacred ‘sight’ as sacred ‘sites’. Imagine the world we would live in if this were the case. Well I want to give you the language of how to begin…

I have to tell you something…

I Love You. I am In Love with You. It can be no other way. I can never be separate from you no matter the distance or time. If I do nothing else, at least know that and carry it with you because that truth never changes.

Grounding Exercises for Spiritual Journeying BY Dr. Joseph Mancini, Jr.

grounding yourself

©2013 Joseph Mancini, Jr.  soulsrvr@erols.com

In Episode #5, Past-life Regression and Shamanic Journeying, of my radio show, “Explorations in Consciousness with Dr. Joe”, my guests, Dana & Shana Robinson, shamanic practitioners and teachers, discussed with me a unique workshop we did combining the modalities.  We mentioned a number of grounding exercises for any kind of spiritual journeying, but we did not have time to add more to the list.  So I am sharing a whole bunch more here.  May your journeys in Spirit be expansive and useful to this incarnation!

***************************************************************

To be ungrounded to a degree is not a problem as long as you are in a safe place where you do not need to attend to your body and your surroundings.  This place may be, for instance, a chair, bed, couch, floor in a space that you will be undisturbed and protected.  You would use this kind of ungrounding to go on a spiritual journey, to focus on writing or playing music or other such activities.  But a substantive part of your consciousness should stay with your body consciousness so you can return easily to full groundedness.   Those who make proper use of the ungrounded condition know when they have chosen to be ungrounded to accomplish a specific purpose, and they have the means to return safely and at will to a grounded condition.

Being Ungrounded means (in varying degrees):

  1. You are not fully in your body; much of your consciousness is somewhere else.
  2. You are not in the now; you are either back in the past or far in the future.
  3. You are emotionally upset—sad, angry, frustrated, etc.—and not open to what else is going on around you that could calm the emotion.
  4. You are obsessed with thoughts (usually of the worrying kind) and feel compelled to do certain actions, often repeatedly (like over-eating or smoking)—once again, you thereby lose awareness of what is going on around you in the moment.
  5. You are doing something that you are not focused on.
  6. After a spiritual journey, you are feeling dizzy, confused, unbalanced, irritable, nervous, outside of yourself, unfocused, forgetful, overwhelmed, lacking organization, sleepless, chronically anxious, overly hungry and suddenly very tired.

THE ESSENCE OF GROUNDING IS TO BE FULLY EMBODIED AND IN THE NOW.

To Ground:

1.  Get sufficiently grounded BEFORE you go into trance or shortly thereafter.

Do the grounding cord exercise described in #3 below.  Doing so is not to constrain you but rather to remind you that, while you remain incarnated, you cannot do your mission fully or make use of the fruits of your spiritual journeys unless you bring them back to the material world.  The grounding cord can “stretch” to allow you to go anywhere in the realm of Spirit and stay tethered to this Earth and this incarnation.

2.  Orient to your immediate physical context.

When you arise out of the altered state of consciousness, no matter where you are, do not attempt to get up and walk; simply and slowly look at every THING, seeing ALL of its details and even saying aloud the name of the thing.  Look behind you, as well as up and down.  You can also attune to what you hear, smell, touch, and even taste in your environment without moving very much at first.

3.  Go into Nature:

Hug a tree:

Open up all your senses in finding and embracing the tree.  Do a full-body hug by standing up next to it, wrapping your arms around it and letting all of your body touch the tree.  Or sit down in front of the tree, wrap your arms AND legs around it.  Bring home a piece of bark or branch that has broken off the trunk to remind you to ground.

Pay attention with all of your senses (you can do this anywhere, not just in Nature):

What do you see?  What do you hear?  What do you smell?  What do you feel (touch)?  What might you taste?  If one is available, work your hands into the dirt/loam in a garden.

Sink roots into the earth:

Sit or stand and concentrate on your feet touching the earth—this works best when you are barefoot and are safe to be so.  Imagine roots emerging from the bottom of your feet and sinking into the earth until they meet and join the energies arising from the center of the earth.

Send a grounding cord into the earth:

This is similar to the previous exercise, but, instead of using roots growing from your feet, you use a white or golden cord or beam that at one end is attached to your crown chakra while the other end is sent down along the spine through all the other chakras, exiting out the first chakra, and then down to the center of the earth where it is anchored in the iron crystal that is the core.

4.  Stomp your feet/Exercise:

Stand up or sit down and either march vigorously in place or stamp your feet hard onto the floor/ground without hurting yourself.  You can also jump up and down in place for as long as you can without injury.  Or do some steady exercise so you can feel your muscles operating, but do not overdo it.

5.  Pat/gently slap your body:

Either you or a friend can rapidly pat your body all over (even your head if you do so with care) so you can feel your body more intensely as the blood is brought to the skin.

6.  Use your feet to push against something:

Find ways you can use your feet to push without hurting yourself, i.e, doing knee bends, pushing again a platform on a gym machine, getting up from a chair repeatedly (using mostly your legs), using a recumbent bike with a high resistance setting, etc.

7.  Drink lots of water:

Doing so reminds the body of its connection to an earthly resource, to its essential component, to its origin in material life.

Among many other benefits, water “is essential to the functioning of every single cell and organ system in the human body” and thereby grounds us into our fleshly state.

“A decrease of as little as 2% in our body’s water supply can have harmful effects and cause symptoms of dehydration, such as daytime fatigue, excess thirst, fuzzy memory, difficulty focusing on tasks and simple math, lightheadedness, and nausea.”

8.  Eat certain foods:

Eating anything after a spiritual journey helps the body speed up its metabolic process, which is very grounding.

You can eat comfort food, including chocolate, but not too much!

Of course, always eat in moderation, but certainly enough to sustain yourself appropriately.  If you do not, you will get ungrounded.  Chronically overweight individuals and overly thin individuals are NOT very grounded.

Eating meat, especially red meat can help ground you.  But you can also eat

root and red vegetables like beets, potatoes, radishes, onions, turnips, peanuts, carrots, garlic, and cherries, red cabbage, red currants red peppers, red plums, red strawberries, tomatoes, watermelon and so on.

9.  Envision red, the color of the base chakra, and thus lower your   vibration:

Concentrate on all the red you may find in what is around you.  Imagine red coloring your feet and what they are standing on.

10.  Send excess energies out of you:

Write:

Write about EVERYTHING that you have experienced on your journey; let the paper contain and hold those energies for you, so you know you will not lose anything important about the experience if you shift your attention onto earthly activities.

Make/imagine a box or tool to hold the energies:

Direct the energies into a physical object like a box or a wand so that they are apart from you but available for your use.

Send the energies deep into the earth:

Direct the Earth Energies to dissolve them or hold them for future use.

11.  Take a shower while imagining (or simply intending) that the excessive spiritual energies float out of your energetic field

12.  Distract yourself from the spiritual journey

Do something mundane or analytical, like balancing a check book (but later check again what you have done).  Do not do anything that will ultimately hurt you if you are not fully attentive to the activity.

13.  Be with others:

Go outside of your inner world and connect with others who know nothing about your journey and talk about non-spiritual topics.

14.  Get rest by sitting or lying down for a period of time.

Feel yourself gradually and deeply sinking into a big, fluffy chair or bed, imagining either one as “holding” or “cradling” you in its embrace.

15.  Use certain yoga position:

Choose those positions that stimulate and let go of energies, especially in the root chakra.

16.  Use chakra balancing:

Focus on aligning all your chakras with each other.  You can do this in various ways.  One way is to see, sense, feel or imagine a golden bean of light fixed at one end to the crown chakra at the top of your head.  Send the other end, the moving end, down your spine through all the other chakras and out through the root chakra to the ground.  Feel energy moving up and down this beam of light.  This process reinforces the connection of the upper chakras with the lower chakras.

17.  Listen to and/or utter the sounds associated especially with the lower chakras:

Listen ot the sounds made by crystal bowls and metallic, Tibetan singing bowls that are attuned to the lower chakras, especially the root chakra called Muladhara.  Use also music that is tuned to the keynote of C, such as Brahm’s Symphony No. 1 in C Mnor; music with strong base sounds is excellent, such as Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man.

The keynote of the Root Chakra is C; the keynote of the Sacral Chakra is D; the keynote of the Navel or Solar Plexus Chakra is E.

Utter the sounds associated with the lower chakras:

Root: Sanskrit Letter LAM (“A” is pronounced “AH”)

Sacral: Sanskrit Letter VAM (“A” is pronounced “AH”)

Navel: Sanskrit Letter RAM (“A” is pronounced “AH”)

If you utter in sequence (one way and then the other) the sounds of all the chakras, you can align the chakras to each other and get grounded also in that way.  Here are the other chakra sounds:

Heart: Sanskrit Letter YAM (“A” is pronounced “AH”)

Throat : Sanskrit Letter HAM (“A” is pronounced “AH”)

Third Eye: Sanskrit Letter AUM (OM)

Crown: Sanskrit Letter NG (as in “king”)

What I know is there was a level of confidence there that had not been there before… and a trust. That morning I tapped into something greater than myself. I know I am no grammy award winning artist, but I surprised myself. As I look back on my own life, I have stepped right into most things that were a complete unknown to me: 11:11 Mag, Talk Radio, Speaking, Clothing Design… At the time, I did not realize I was leaping in the same way but now I see I did. And you have probably done the same in your life but not acknowledged it. In the end, this life is simply about experience. The point of all of this… and of The Rebel Road… is to discover the vastness that is philosophized about. What if everyone let go and really just trusted the natural organic nature of life?

What have got to lose by seeing our potential? Its not for the sake of making a mark, or accomplishing some success or fame or fortune… but for the opportunity to touch the expansiveness of our Divine potential. This is a gift granted each one of us and it begins simply by playing with a thought… the heart’s willingness to take a leap of faith and then a hop, skip and a jump into the unknown!  I can promise it’s a lot bigger playground than the one you are playing and completely magical! We can each be The Rebel in our own lives!

What if you walked in life as if you had nothing to lose? Detach … Release… Let go… Leap … Trust…

Time to let Spirit out of the box! That box might be you… What you believe about yourself… Who you think you are… What you have settled into… The personality you claim… The identity you wear? What if you opened this box and released yourself to more…? Doesn’t mean you have to leave everything … Just leave the encasements limiting it from knowing, being, expressing, experiencing and having more. Let Spirit out of the box… Spirit rise! Along the way to freedom, you will find Signs.. Symbols… Coincidences… Synchronicity… ONENESS!

Morgan O. Smith, Philosophy

This Very Moment

For those of you who have chosen to walk the middle path between two extremes, then one day, you may experience the most spiritually gratifying moment of your whole entire life.

What I’m trying to express to you, is the monocratic moment of a full awakening; an occurrence of true nirvana; a moment in a preeminent state that is within your grasp, fully within your reach.

This is a moment of transcendence where you will encounter a state of consummated fulfillment; a euphoric sensation where one feels completely whole; a state where God and man becomes one body within itself.

This event is more than just an experience – it is one astounding phenomenon; an imperforated state of being all great mystics have spoken about – yet beautifully said by most, they all have fallen short in capturing its full essence; as will I.

Once you have ventured into this celebrated moment of truth, you will have a knowing; a captivating feeling of pure enlightenment; a moment of total clarity that is beyond all comprehension of the flesh.

It is in this exact point in time when you will witness the subtle nadis of ida and pingala joining together in holy matrimony;  a sacrament of a cosmic marriage, a joyousness that is utterly indecipherable.

This will be a moment of jubilation, when all brain waves dance to the musical heart beat at the glorious celebrated reception of your inner being.

Within an instant, you will experience absolute oneness, a oneness with The Absolute – a moment where yin and yang unite to become the brightest shade of the perfect grey.

In this very moment, you will understand the purpose of everything; you will realize that this ever flowing consciousness is the driving force behind all things created, and the completion of all things still undone.

This will be a moment where you will apprehend the fact that your many beginnings – the physical manifestation which is the grand explosion, and the inverted implosion are controlled by one powerful thought; a disastrous continuous event so catastrophic, yet sweet and so divine.

This moment is an epiphany that can never be construed by human tongue; it is a power so inexplicable, the greatest of all savants will never find the words of the highest state to inflect its sublimity.

This same unspoken revelation  is like a mantra that cannot be chanted, a hymn that cannot be sung, it is a sight that cannot be seen, nor a sound that can be heard; it is an exuberance that can only be felt by the depths of the never-ending soul.

Once you have reached this pinnacle point of the infallible, you will fall to thy knees while showering the holy ground with tears of a deep abounding joy.

Within that same moment you will witness the unmasking of the facade; the uncovering of the egoistic masquerade, that will lead to a feeling of total attainment, an actualization; the peak of pure eureka – once this occurs, you will undeniably become fully cognizant of who you once were, who you are now, and who you are truly yet to become.

You will then realize that you are the holy trinity – both father, son and the holy ghost; you will become the shakti that will make the warm body of a brahma shiva.

In this extraordinary moment you will know that you are the great trinary; a three pointed triangle which is undoubtedly the focal point of one.

Once you have reached that seraphic moment of your true identity, make it yours, and yours alone.

You maybe asking “How long will my anticipation be before reaching an occurrence such as this?” All I will say for now is stop, wait, then listen…for just one moment.

Opportunity and Adventure by Maria Rodriguez

“Is this an opportunity to consider or a problem to solve?”, so asked America, an intuitive consultant. She was referring to my fretting about how we could afford the remodeling project we were considering. I quickly shifted from a state of agitation to one of cautious excitement. I could feel the power of choice- there was nothing that I had to do, only something that I could choose to do…with proper planning and precaution.

How often do we miss the opportunities hidden within possibilities like this one, worrying instead about all of the risks? Similarly, how often do we miss adventures hidden within losses- of a job, of a marriage; of any loss we didn’t want and didn’t choose?

With those that aren’t as obvious, sometimes all it takes is a shift in attitude and mindset, an embracing of the spirit of Opportunities and Adventures (the giddy anticipation of the child within and the uplift shown in the photo above), and a leap of faith in action.  Try it, you’ll see.

Healer, Teacher, Circle Leader and host of the show Cour De Grace on VoiceAmerica’s Empowerment Channel. Maria Rodriguez has served in these ways in her 25 years as a clinical social worker. These roles have been enhanced by Maria’s gifted Channeling. Maria believes that together we can see more clearly, shift more deeply and move forward more swiftly. In light of this, she developed a model for Breaking Our Toxic Shame Cycles: Healing Ourselves and Our Relationships, a model that has led many to profound spiritual and psychological transformation. Maria is also the founder of Sacred Spaces, her counseling work of partnering with each person to remove these barriers and to access and embrace the Sacred Spaces, within us, between us, and around us.

Through Cour de Grace and the VoiceAmerica talk radio show, Maria will share much of the wisdom she has gained from the pain and triumphs of her own journey and from being a co-journeyer with others. Maria believes that none of us need live any longer bound by shame and that our journey is one of moving towards leading a life we love to live, ever uncovering the essence of who we are, bringing higher intentions wherever we tread. All with grace, for the good of all that is.

The contrast is an amazing thing in the human experience. We can get high and mighty… in fact, all too serious if we do not watch out. But, it is the mundane or sometimes the obstacles that actually occur to keep us grounded and present. They help us understand and know true beauty in all its forms. When the poop shows up in your life amidst massive transformation and creation… in the movement of unfolding passion, understand it is just the Universe letting you know to stop a moment and embrace the contrast with gratitude. Why? Because it made you stop for a moment to allow energy to work on your behalf so you could take a break from it all. Join me on the REBEL ROAD! www.TheRebelRoad.com
