A Mystic in Awe of his own Mystique

What is a mystic? A true mystic is one who openly sees with eyes closed, who breaks through the threshold of his own ignorance; reaching the pinnacle of the perspicacious. He now has a direct experience with God, fully knowing that he’s having a direct experience with himself, within himself, for himself, by himself.

One can call himself a true mystic, once he studies & masters the brahmavidya – the science of knowing the one and only Brahman. He no longer believes in a God; he now forever knows.  One can call himself a true mystic, when he’s able to see behind the many masks worn by the divine; once he can recognize that the characters of the many are played by the individual one who will remain as singular.

One can call himself a true mystic, once he’s able to see his reflection of his very own; he realizes that he & the God who reflects are one and the same.  One can call himself a true mystic, once he comprehends that he is in everything and everything is in him; he is everything and everything is him; everything comes out of him, and within him, everything will eventually return – an action forever repeating.

One can call himself a true mystic, once he can fully grasp that all things in existence are different facets of the same and that past & future are different perspectives of this very moment, we call now.  One can call himself a true mystic, once he apprehends that the greatest mystery isn’t something he tries to solve, but something he simply explores; a bumpy yet smooth road that is never ending.

You can call yourself a true mystic, once you realize that a mystic is only a label played by you the ego, a perfect character of flaws played by The Authentic You – that very You the mystic is in direct contact with. You now know that this label doesn’t constrain the real You which hides behind the veil; a convincing illusion I/you/we call reality.

Waking Up from The Dream

Back in the mid-eighties, we walked into a health food store and noticed a  tarot card reader who, for a nominal fee, offered short sessions for the  store’s clientele.  The two of us were departing within the week for a six  month intensive course at a meditation center in Europe and thought it might  be fun to see what she had to say about our imminent trip.  We had high hopes  that these six months would produce the Self Realization for which we had  worked so long and hard over many years to achieve.  So when our turn came,  we sat before her with expectations of a fun, lighthearted reading into our  futures that would affirm that we were on the right path, a path that would  bring us the illumination we desired.  Contrary to our expectations, we were  in for a big surprise.  It is shocking how disturbing it can be when someone  gives you information that goes in opposition to your point of view.  Here,  next to the 7 grain bread and organic beans, this tarot card reader told us  what she saw with the best of intentions and ultimately, we did not like it.

Gazing at the faces of the cards before her, she said, “I see you are going  on a trip.”  This sounded like a good beginning. We hadn’t given her any  information.  Next she said, “And this trip is not a short vacation but a  lengthy stay at a distant land.  You will be traveling over a large body of  water so wherever you are going, it is overseas.  The cards indicate that  this journey is one that is not lightly undertaken but one of a spiritual  nature, rather like a pilgrimage of sorts.”

Wow, we thought, she is really good!  If there had been a hidden camera  recording this event, the tape of our meeting would now show us eagerly  listening to catch every pearl of wisdom that this reader had to impart. It  is funny how we human beings idealize our lives hoping to prove that the road  we are traveling is the perfect or right one and maybe it is for awhile.  But  the smooth road we were on with this reader was about to take a very sharp  and bumpy turn.  She certainly had created credibility with us by describing  the near future events that were part of the script of our lives but then she  said something that sent us into an immediate panic and we broke into a cold  sweat.

Looking at the pictures intently, as if to catch some subtle nuance, this  woman solemnly pronounced that as a result of this trip and our experiences,  we would become – disillusioned.

Oh No!  We wanted illumination from this investment of our time and energy,  not disillusionment, whatever that meant.  It sounded so negative and we  wanted our lives to be positive.  Here we were, about to invest six months  and a lot of money and we certainly didn’t want to be disillusioned as a  result. To tell you the truth, it is hard to remember what happened next.   The idea of being disillusioned by this trip of a lifetime, which we had  planned to save us from ourselves and the domination of life, was suddenly  upsetting.  We thanked her, rather stiffly, and left that store deeply shaken  by those few words that we disagreed with.

One week later we were in Europe.  Six long months later, we were leaving  Europe, in fact, disillusioned.  On our journey, the two of us discovered  that we were not interested in a counter culture way of life which by its  very nature is based in opposition to that which already exists.  Rather, we  realized that we wanted to live from our truth, which is not for or against  the so called establishment.

When we got back to the States, we thought about the tarot card reader and  what she had said and finally broke out the dictionary to look up the word  disillusion.  We were surprised by its definition because we had thought of  being disillusioned in all the terms one might find in a thesaurus, i.e. failure,  disappointment, falling short of, dashing one’s hopes, etc.  In fact, the  primary definition of disillusion is “to free of illusion and false ideas.” What it means is that the illusion under which you have been living is  dissolved so that you see the truth of the situation, as it is, not as you  would prefer it to be.

This disillusionment was the beginning of our Self Realization.  After we  returned from Europe, we discovered that nothing was going to save us from  ourselves and the domination of life.  No matter where you go, you bring  yourself along. Over the past years, as seminar leaders, authors and  individuals living our lives, we have come to realize that the only time life  dominates you is when you are not living in the moment, when your hopes for  the future create an illusion of how it will someday be better than it is  now.  True freedom happens when the illusion dissolves and you live life  directly in each moment not as you would prefer it, but as it is.  If you  want to live life to your potential, rather than strive to be a better you,  discover who you are and how you are being in any given moment.

Dark of the Perfect Dim

Spot the devil from afar, before encountering the false prophet who wears the garment of disownment, claiming to be without sin. Mostly righteousness & virtues he obtains, but full awareness of the flawed self he may not have, while he lingers in dark of the very dim.

This devil within him is the disowned personal shadow, hiding within the pitch black of the deep unknown, where light itself seems to have no purpose. The host himself has an inner curiosity of what lies beneath, but is not daring enough to become the seeker of his own domain.

This devil I speak of can be sensed by others, but cannot be seen; it’s always felt at the level which rubs the instinct to the point of friction.

This is a flamboyant beast that needs to be heard and has no concern for the individual who chooses to ignore the silent scream of the one who was once the bearer of all light. If this beast reaches the peak of neglect, it will lash out through the behavior of the host, lacking in functionality; it will express itself through lewd actions and will spew verbal waste by the many.

This devil isn’t the false prophet himself, but the dark shadow within him urging to exploit its true nature to those who are more than willing to place him under a glass well magnified; a scrutinized experiment, custom made for the shamelessly blissfully oblivious, taking no responsibility for the intolerable actions of his own.

If you ever glance this fallen angel at a distance, judge not; for you are no more superior than its incubator, who may sometimes appear morally or ethically inadequate – for he is your very own reflection.

Once you’re ready to face this mirror of self-actualization, identify that same dark spirit of the ambiguous that dwells deeply within you. While doing so, shun your own ignorance of bliss, confront your darkly shadow, make it your teacher; make it your friend. For what you see in others, you will always find rooted within yourself; knowing this will lead to tolerance; applying this will lead to a road of empathy.

You are the Who, What, When, Where, Why and the How

Who am I?

You are everyone & everything and everything & everyone are different manifestations of The Authentic You. You are the Great I am; an enigma beyond all human comprehension.

You have no identity, you cannot be identified nor described, because you have no shape or form. You are also nameless, you have no moniker, nor a sobriquet, because you are the only one to ever exist. No one is external from you, so there’s no one outside of you for you to respond to.

You have no brand, no title, no label, but from the perspective of you the individual and of the whole collective, names of the many you do have, because you have chosen to. All names represents the many characters you manifest. if you want to know who you truly are, learn to bypass the idea of who you think you are – see yourself at your core.     

What am I?

You are perfection having the experience of being imperfect. You believe you are this imperfect human, made from sinful flesh; but flesh is just a dense version of spirit which always remains perfect. This spirit is absolute flawlessness having the experience that you are not.

You are the never changing, experiencing on going change. This has been happening from the very beginning; a beginning that never began. You are the ultimate paradox, the nothingness, the somethingness and at the same time everythingness; even this paradox you are not – still making you paradoxical.

You may ask for proof, but this evidence which is already all around you, I do not have to give; but if you get the pleasure of having the experience, then just one glimpse of your true self is a minding blowing, mind bending, mind twisting and mind crushing experience; yet absolutely mindless.

When did I come into being?

There is no when, because neither objective nor subjective time exists; your true-self is the backdrop of this so-called past, present and future. The past, the present and the distant future are three different perspectives of this same present moment; everything that ever happened and will happen is happening right now; but the brain is designed to experience this present moment – periodically.

 You believe you have a past, present and a future, but you are only having an ‘experience’ of a future, present and a past. Because time is only a man-made concept, your true-self never came into being, yet you are always coming into existence. You’ve always been (t)here. 

Where am I?

You reside in paradise; but paradise is everywhere. Paradise is perceived differently by the different aspects of the manifested versions of the you, (the we, the all of us). Some of you experiences what most of us call hell; I’m here to tell you (also can be phrased – you’re here to tell me) that hell & paradise are the exact same thing experienced differently.

You reside in heaven & hell, heaven & hell resides in you. You are no different from what people (you believe to be external from you) believe to be an actual place; (a difficult concept to digest, but a unpopular concept that came from another aspect of you, which is this so-called me).

Your true-self which is the actual paradise, is non-local, so you are everywhere, yet you are nowhere; you are nowhere to be found, yet you are here; they are one in the same. You are always and forever omnipresent.

Why don’t I remember who I am?

 You haven’t forgotten anything. You’ve simply created distractions that clouds your awareness of being.

We’re here to experience joy, pleasure and unfortunately pain. We’re here as so-called individuals to experience all feelings & emotions; this includes our own suffering. Your authentic self enjoys all of this; from it’s point of view, all this order and all this chaos is actually very entertaining, a stimuli for the eternally stimulus – because from its point of view, it’s simply an act.

You’ve forgotten nothing; your true-self remembers exactly who you are; but your ego, the false sense of self purposely tries to keep this memory at bay; keeping this convincing reality you’ve created very well alive.

How did I create all of this?

You haven’t created anything – there is absolutely nothing to be made, because you are completely full within yourself – without the self; yet you created everything into being with just one thought with no thinking involved (a moving mind completely still); your so-called thoughts are the building blocks of all energy, which are the building blocks of all matter.

All matter is energy, all energy are thoughts, all thoughts are you and every part of you is consciousness and all consciousness is the nothingness filled with this everythingness – an emptiness absolutely full.

Elaboration on this subject simply causes more confusion than clarity; this is a concept that has to be felt – not intellectually understood; this has to be an absolute knowing, where second hand beliefs has no dwelling – so I’ll say this: you are all creation, creating the already created that can never be created, while the creative you creates the creator, creating you creatively.
