What is perception? Perception comes from the Latin word “perceptio” which means receiving, collecting, an action of taking possession with the mind or senses. Perception is an intuitive understanding of something, the understanding of an impression. Or is it, as a Google definition proclaims, a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression?” Is “perception” synonymous with “judgment” or “belief”? Does it have an unmistakable subjective, even illusory, quality?

Join Hosts Asya Gonzalez and Henna Hundal as they dissect, debate, and discuss this mode of communication.

Elections and Peace By Cynthia Brian

Every Tuesday at NOON PT, the talented teens of Be the Star You Are!® bring you an exciting, informative, mind-boggling program with fresh ideas from youthful minds. Join the fun!
Zahra Hasanianbrigitte-jiajoven-hundal
Hosts Brigitte Jia and Zahra Hassanian as well as reporter Joven Hundal offer a full hour of youthful insights on today’s national election and how peace can be attained in the world.  Joven provides an historical perspective on the political mudslinging of campaigns. Polls of millennials indicate disillusion with this “R-rated election.”  An avid student of Latin, Zahra digs into the ancient wisdom of peace, providing correlations between the past and present. Artist Brigitte paints a picture of peace through the visuals of art,  cartoons, and the Impressionist movement. It’s a lively, peaceful discussion with very bright and informed teens who care deeply about who is in power and how peace can be attained.

Halloween is THE favourite holiday for many teens and our hosts Asya Gonzalez and Brigitte Jia are among those who love October. Today they interview two fascinating authors around the theme of Halloween: the King of Witches, Devin Hunter, whose new book is The Witches Book of Power and Australian author and gamer, Brewin’ with his supernatural horror, The Dark Horde. Instead of being dark and frightening, Devin’s book empowers readers to ignite the fire within. He discusses the importance of being unique and reaching your magical potentials. Part thriller and part crime-fiction, Brewin’s, The Dark Horde tells of the return of an ancient evil that is neither stoppable nor comprehensible. Brewin’ is also the creator of the sci-fi games, Gamebooks Adventures. The hosts were very excited about downloading the series immediately to start playing. Both authors were questioned about their Halloween experiences and what they’ll be doing on this next hallowed eve. An entertaining hour of G rated conversations.  Don’t be afraid to let the kids tune in.

Horace wrote “carpe diem quam minimum credula postero” which translates to “seize the day, and believe as little as possible in tomorrow.” Today’s show is all about today-the choices we make, the people we impact, the technology we employ.

Express Yourself Teens With the on-air Be the Star You Are!® youth reporters about Time Management

Young or old, male or female, student or professional, if you’ve ever faced a deadline in your life, you know the allure of procrastination. Due dates always seem to defy clock, bombarding us relentlessly. The quest to use our time most effectively is a universal struggle. Hosts Henna Hundal and Katelyn Darrow with reporter, Asya Gonzalez lead a discussion on the necessity of time management. Some of their tips include: -Use an organizer -Know your deadlines -Learn to say “No” to some opportunities -Target to be punctual and early for your engagements -Find what distracts you and weed it out of your life -Don’t fuss about unimportant details -Prioritize and delegate – “Work smarter, not harder” Henna and Katelyn also interview college student creative author, Pema Donyo who inspires us with her ability to balance school and publishing. You’ll also meet the adorable star of the new Amazon series, “Just Add Magic”, Olivia Sanabia. Olivia enchants us with her bubbly, positive outlook and very grown up ways in which she manages her time for acting, studying, and play. Make sure to vote before February 15th for Olivia and Just Add Magic at Amazon.com. Use your time wisely.

Olivia Sanabia

Olivia Sanabia is a breakout star on the brand new Amazon series “Just Add Magic.” Based on the childhood book “Just Add Magic” by Cindy Callaghan, the 12 year old young star portrays the lead role of a loving, heart of gold, and sweet baker named ‘Kelly’ who, with her two friends, discovers her grandmother’s cookbook. To their surprise, recipes like the Keep ‘Em Quiet Cobbler silences her little brother and the Hexberry Tart puts a curse on a mean girl. The series follows the adventures of ‘Kelly’ and her friends as they navigate the cookbook and learn the ins and outs of the magical recipes, friendship, and boys. Twitter: https://twitter.com/

Be the Star You Are!® 501 c3 charity presents: Express Yourself Teens With the on-air Be the Star You Are!® youth reporters.

Taylor Swift, John Green, You Tube, Table 58. What do they have in common? Bold fashion styles. Beauty must-haves. The latest songs. The best new gadgets. Let’s face it: trying to stay informed about all the ever-evolving teen trends can be exhausting! Worry not, though – Express Yourself!™ is here to help keep you “in the know”! Under-recognized for their influence in the teen trend world, books are a huge part of young people’s lives, and they have the potential to catch on like wildfire, particularly when they become movies! Think Harry Potter, Twilight, the Hunger Games, The Fault in Our Stars. Whether we’re driving down the highways blaring the latest tunes from inside our cars, or whether we’re sitting in our rooms rocking out to beats from our iPods, music constitutes one of teens’ most valued art forms. It’s hard to imagine what our lives would be like without the solace of music and the influence of our favorite singers. Book It! Reporter, Courtney Cheng chats with our hosts, Henna Hundal and Asya Gonzalez about the importance and relevance of books and music for teens. DStar of Bubble Guppies on Nick Jr, twelve year old Grace Kaufman talks about her new Amazon series, “Table 58” about a geeky group of unpopular kids who occupy the odd table in the lunchroom, made up of kids from all different cliques. Whatever trends are in or out, the Express Yourself!™ stars will keep you informed.

Guest: Grace Kaufman
Grace Kaufman is close to turning 12, she is not only an actress but also a singer and dancer. She has a wide range of talents and expresses them on the projects she works on, definitely earning her a spot to be the next big star in Hollywood. She had a great year with her work in 2014 as she starred in television shows and movies, her amazing performances left the fans wanting more. But not to worry! She’s got more in store for 2015 as she gets ready for her premier of the Amazon pilot “Table 58”. Grace’s peers can also hear her belt out tunes as the fun, bright, crazy and opinionated ‘Deema’ on the hit animated Nick Jr. series “Bubble Guppies.” The anticipated TNT series “The Last Ship” is set to air for the second season Summer 2015 on the network where Grace will portray Eric Dane’s daughter in the futurist action adventure series produced by Michael Bay. Fans of independent films will be captivated by Grace’s emotional performance in the film “Sister,” as the lead role of ‘Niki,’ a young girl whose adoptive parents are killed. Grace is one busy little girl.

EXPRESS YOURSELF! In Bullying-No Name Calling

Be the Star You Are!® 501 c3 charity presents: Express Yourself Teens With the on-air Be the Star You Are!® youth reporters.

Bullying, mocking, deriding, disparaging, taunting, ridiculing, name calling describe exactly the type of social and emotional pain that many kids endure every day. The time is now to nip this negativity in the bud. Our empowered hosts, Henna Hundal and Asya Gonzalez interview Matt Cubbler, owner of MaxOut Strength Studio that works to create leaders by building the inner strength of its teen clients as well developing their physical strength. The hosts also interview creative writing teacher from Minnesota State, Geoff Herbach,  award winning author of the Young Adult novels, Stupid Fast, Nothing Special, I’m With Stupid, and Fat Boy vs. The Cheerleaders, all listed in the year’s best by the American Library Association, The American Booksellers Association, and many state library associations. The Gift of Giving reporter, Katelyn Darrow, talks about why it’s important to choose benevolence amid bullies and always live by the Golden Rule. Our program winds up with a stellar rendition of Taylor Swift’s song “Mean” sung by our own Be the Star You Are!® chanteuse and Back Story Reporter, Jennifer Lee. Today’s program encourages us all to choose kindness and never be a name caller. It doesn’t pay to be MEAN.

“I bet you got pushed around

Somebody made you cold

But the cycle ends right now

‘Cause you can’t lead me down that road

And you don’t know, what you don’t know…

Someday I’ll be living in a big ol’ city

And all you’re ever gonna be is mean

Someday I’ll be big enough so you can’t hit me

And all you’re ever gonna be is mean

Why you gotta be so mean?”
